. . . Dr Lekter than Anthony Hopkins. True or false?
Tom Noonan is creepier and scarier than Ted Levine. True or false?

And I think Hopkins is a great actor, but does not have the range to pull off the Captain in Airplane 2, Hannibal in Manhunter, Killearn in Rob Roy, Argyle Wallace in Braveheart (okay, so he is Scottish), Dr. Guggenheim in Rushmore, Captain O'Hagen in Super Troopers, Agememnon in Troy - and on and on and on.
Guy makes a movie better merely by reading the script - put him in it and it loads better.

The answer is true, he's more terrifying easily. Hopkins has more charisma, that's kind of the reason people are drawn to that performance. I prefer villains that I hate not villains that I love to hate. There's a difference. "Loving to hate" villains is a new thing that jives with the "grey, not black and white," trend in films as well. I don't like that either.

Probably true, but I like both.

quote:I agree with this. He was absolutely brilliant in Adaptation. I think Hopkin's adaptation of Hannibal was more extreme, but overall, I like Brian Cox better as an actor.

Mads Mikkelsen is a better Hannibal than both

Bryan Cox is so underrated.. he can be funny, dramatic, scary, whatever... & I dont think he's even had an AA nod... I just liked Hopkins a lot more as Hannibal Lector... He was in the movie a lot more than Cox was though...

Mikkelson's Hannibal is closer to the book version than the three actors who played him on the big screen.

I didn't like the idea of Hopkins doing a prequel for a film he did 12 years earlier. He was 40 pounds heavier & looked a whole lot older & we were supposed to buy that it was him before Silence of the Lambs even took place. Should have snagged mikkelson up then.

I loved him in X2. He was even awesome in Frasier.

I love Anthony Hopkins, but he just plays Anthony Hopkins in everything. Cox uses way more range.

Agreed.
Hopkins was still the better lector.

Wouldn't you have to compare Noonan to Ralph Fiennes instead of Ted Levine?
Levine is creepier.
Levine is creepier.
