What's the board'stake on these guys? I think I've listened to the new album 20 times straight through in the last few weeks.

New album is one of my favorites of the year.

Attack on Memory is one of my favorites of the decade.

In short, I am a big fan. Saw them in Nola back in April.

I am fond of Attack on Memory.

Did not listen to the new album yet.

I only know about this band from TD FWIW

I liked their first album, very "bedroom punk" and full of catchy, bouncy tunes. And then Attack on Memory just blew up everything about the band.

It was f'n awesome. Attack on Memory is destined to go down as one of the all-time great albums. The new album consolidates the gains of Attack. It doesn't quite break new ground, but it shows the last album wasn't a fluke. A terrific band, and a great live show.

I thought! I would! Be more! Than this!

I really am going to make an effort to listen to these guys again. I couldn't get into their first record at the time, but it seems like something I'd like..

By the way, Baloo... Did you read Steve Albini's Keynote Address on the state of the music industry at Melbourne's Face the Music conference? It's quite long, but an excellent read.. I figured if anyone on this board would be interested, you might..

I'm pretty sure there isn't much middle ground with these guys. You either don't like them or you LOVE them.

This song really, really tests my patience and nerves when I hear it. Maybe I should give them more of a chance, but I just can't get into them. Not really my cup of tea maybe.

It's a fantastic article, and should be paired with David Lowery's counterpoint from a few years back. I think they both make some cogent points. Neither is entirely right or wrong. I think, funnily enough, Albini is focusing only on the good stuff and Lowery only on the bad.

I'm not familiar with David Lowery's counterpoint, I will need to look it up... Albini's point of view is not surprising, given his "ethics"

My favorite parts were his views on intellectual property:

quote:

Technology has brought to a head a need to embrace the meaning of the word “release”, as in bird or fart. It is no longer possible to maintain control over digitised material and I don’t believe the public good is served by trying to.

quote:

If your little daughter does a kooky dance to a Prince song don’t bother putting it on YouTube for her grandparents to see or a purple dwarf in assless chaps will put an injunction on you. Did I offend the little guy? frick it. His music is poison.

quote:

Music has entered the environment as an atmospheric element, like the wind, and in that capacity should not be subject to control and compensation. Well, not unless the rights holders are willing to let me turn the tables on it. If you think my listening is worth something, OK then, so do I. Play a Phil Collins song while I’m grocery shopping? Pay me $20. Def Leppard? Make it $100. Miley Cyrus? They don’t print money big enough.

Sorry for the thread hijack... In retrospect, I should have started a new topic.. my bad!

That was my take. I couldn't get into it but looks like I should try a later album.

I actually listened to Wasted Days again and was starting to get the same feeling, but then they way it builds towards the end started to kinda suck me in... Unfortunately, I have a bunch on conference calls today so I haven't been able to listen to too much more... I will though!

**I did intend to catch them at Gasa Gasa a while back, but like too many shows, it came and went..
