I go to jax every year, but it's centered around UGA/uf so I have no idea what to do normally. I played golf in ponte vedra (about a 15 minute drive south) at the facility where TPC sawgrass is (there's a bunch of courses in there) for like $25 from golfnow.com, so if you're a golfer maybe try that?
The landing is happening for uga/uf but who knows on a normal weekend. Nightlife..we stay in jax beach which is about 15 minutes east of downtown (on the beach, obv) and there's a little strip with some kinda cool bars over there, can't remember the names of them though.

Riverside is a cool walkable neighborhood. Lots of cool restaurants and bars. Where is the conference? Jax is HUGE so it matters.
Atlantic/Neptune beach is cool.
Jax beach is alright if you know where you're going exactly. It's a little run down.

I went to that tournament one year and they had a "deal" where you could stay Monday and play the course for like 250.

Maybe I didn't articulate that well enough...in the ponte vedra subdivision there's a bunch of courses, one of which is TPC sawgrass. I played a different one in the same area for 25.

Avoid the Landing. Sometimes they have free concerts of pretty well known acts, but otherwise it's a ghost town (except for FL/GA weekend obviously).

Everyone I've ever met from Jacksonville was addicted to pain pills, so I'd say oxys and roxys

Yeah ...
Not a whole lot I can suggest (I live in Jax). The Landing is going to be dead. There are a few decent breweries around downtown and San Marco. St Augustine if you like touristy history. The beach is decent (not as nice as Destin, but decent). The Golf Hall of Fame is just south of Jax - worth a trip.

If you like golf but don't have time/interest in playing, go to TPC and they'll give you a little tour and take you around Stadium on a golf cart and what not. Have lunch there, etc., it's a good way to kill a couple hours. They're very nice and will be happy just to let you poke around and give you some history.

Town Center area has nice restaurants....some cool bars in downtown...see if there is anybody playing in town..usually some decent concerts going on...someone else mentioned the free ones that happen at the Landing...Jax Beach was mentioned...i would do Neptune...has some decent bars...cleanest titty bar is Gold Club...its off of Arlington Expressway on the east side of down town heading to the beach...St Augustine is cool to walk around...its abotu 30 minutes south...also Fernandina/Amelia Island is nice...several nice bars and restaurants out there
