I am in my 20's, I was raised an LSU fan but obviously don't remember much before 2000's. I know that all the criticism is due to the fact that LSU and fans feel as if we are a national power now and rightfully so. ( Victim of our own success). Anything less than 9-3,10-2 is a dissapointment. What would it take in your eyes to get CLM fired? Before you say I'm a spoiled brat and don't realize how bad it used to be, I'm not saying we need to fire him. Just wondering how long y'all think his leash is. I like CLM but that doesn't mean he will forever be the best for the job.

If he goes with Jennings again next year and the offense is as putrid as it is now look for TAF to start turning up the heat

Because of scheduling 9-3 is the new 7-4. 10-2 is the new 8-3. Use that as your guide and you will find the answer pretty quickly.

The leash is directly correlated to the buy-out.
He's got a lot of rope right now.

I believe he gets a pass this season. But if next year stacks up the same, mishandling of the quarterback situation, inept offense, etc. I think he is on the hot seat. I don't believe we will go back to the 90's anytime soon. LSU has been a strong program for a while now, and I think it will stay that way.

Good question. I would say another couple of years without at least making a serious threat to win the SEC west and get in to the playoff.

He has at least two years. And that assumes next year is worse than this year. I really think you are looking at 3 years. With the talent on the roster right now LSU should not lose more than 3 games next year. Les and Cam need to figure out how to get the offense out of the 70s.

Under contract till 2019... buyout would really hurt amidst LA budget cuts

He's got another mediocre season before the seat gets hot, but the talent next year will make it difficult to lose with

If true, then we are what we've traditionally been, with a few exceptional years thrown in.

I think that's the indicator of how long Les remains. If we're still doing the same thing next year with the same results he may well find himself in some very hot water. Coaches have to adjust to a changing game. Les will either retool the offense or give us more of the same. That will decide his fate given similar win loss results.

Miles isn't feeling any heat with the exception of his on embarrassment for how the offense has underperformed, in particular the passing game. Barring illness, he has years remaining at LSU and will likely retire there. Nationally, the program would be scorned for even considering the thought of cutting ties with the man who has averaged 10.5 wins a year for a decade. So those that feel like a down season or two will get Les run off are delusional. Same for the folks that feel like Les is never at fault. Make no mistake, he needs to be held accountable for some decisions but that does not a hot-seat make.

Thanks for your candor. I was a student for the entire Curley Hallman era. I got lucky that in 1988 as a freshman I got to see a winning season and some great games, like the Earthquake game, then it tailed off.

What was it like during the Hallman era? Imagine going into a game knowing you had absolutely ZERO chance to win because you were so out-manned and out-coached. Florida beat us in Tiger Stadium 58-3. Alabama routinely came to Tiger Stadium as a heavy favorite and you felt LSU was extremely lucky if it was even a close game in the 4th quarter. Losses were common. Wins were scarce. Trips to the Swamp would end up with Spurrier and crew running up 50 points or more. Every night you knew your team was going to be on the business end of an arse-whipping.

Folks the age of the OP have NEVER experienced this in their lifetime. At no point in the 2000's has an LSU team ever taken the field and you knew they had zero chance to win.

And for all of the idiots who keep talking about "the decline"….ignore them. LSU is on solid footing and will be just fine. Is anything forever? No, it isn't. But I can promise you that as long as Miles is here and we get good recruits as we do every year, LSU will not ever walk into a stadium knowing they have zero chance to win.

Its all in the revenues. Heard Joe Dean once say this at a breakfast where he was guest speaker after he was AD. When the seats start going empty and the concessions are not selling and the monies are being lost , that will be the determining factor. Not that the games are said to be sellouts, if you are not getting butts in the seats, you are not selling concessions, people are not buying souvenirs, People don't feel like spending money at restaurants etc, that will be the determining factor. That could happen quickly or it could take a while.

Yeah, but you could literally drive to the stadium 15 mins before the game and find a parking spot at the gate.

That was nice.

What if he goes with Jennings and the offense is putrid, but he wins a championship?

What does the lynch mob say to that?

I have said for years that if we won the NC by winning 14 straight games 7-6 half of our fan base would still want to fire the coach.

Championships have long been an excellent cover for blemishes.
