Damn he just gave us all that info in a minute and 30seconds. And he has about 1/4 of that time in a real game.

I'd love to see what it would look like if some of these elite QBs' brains were put to use elsewhere. That's a hell of a lot of information to process in 40 seconds some eighty times or so in a game. You'd have to think these guys would be really good at just about anything they put their minds to.

True. And you also get a better understanding as to why guys like Jamarcus Russell, Vince Young, and Ryan Leif struggled. Athleticism only takes you so far.

I heard that Johnny football has a very low football IQ. Not a flame.

Not only that, he didn't really get much into audibles, and the things to consider before changing the play

Please don't show this to Les and his staff. Their heads will spontaneously combust.

You mean it's not: get ball, stare at double teamed receiver, panic?

I used to work with a guy that was a former LSU and arena ball qb. He once told me all the things that were looked for a the line of scrimmage, and all went into his call at the line. It was only half of what Rodgers just said, but it still amazed me that that went into every freaking play. He also said that the center had more stuff to read at the line than he did.

It's a certain type of thinking. They probably would excell in other similar high pressure situations where decisions have to be made very quickly. Maybe a field leader in a military would be a good example of something where that type of thinking would translate.

Don't get me wrong, it's an amazing thought process that they go through, but he strung out many of the things they look at by presenting them as questions. "Are they gonna drop 4, are they gonna drop 5, etc.". In his mind in real time that gets condensed into "how many are they dropping"

I figured Mannings would look something like that but he would be humming it to the Nationwide song and throw in a couple Omahas for good measure.

This is not surprising at all. Everything he mentioned is a logical thing to consider pre-snap. It does not mean that it is easy to do, but the average fan just has no clue the number of reads a good QB should be making at the line.

The only thing that caught me by surprise was the style of dropback (number of steps, how quick, etc). I think this is primarily on the type of offense run...under center, west coast style that is timing driven really emphasizes the dropback rhythm.

What goes through Ben Roethlisburger's mind pre-snap:

"Uhh, dat guys gonna blitz me. Hard count! No wait he in zone. Hahaha can't fool Ben! Dummy. Send RB guy in motion. No blockers for Ben now, Ben. Midget WR in slot is open now but maybe he not once Ben get ball."
