Good thoughts although I do think it will pose the same issue of me just blindly picking the best team.

If I was just starting to watch the Premier League, I would be tempted to become a Southampton fan.
If you're looking to the Premier League as a place of solace, for a team who'll consistently be at the top and challenging for trophies, I'd go with Chelsea or Man City. At least for the forseeable future.
But, if you want to support (by far) the greatest team the world has ever seen, go with Arsenal.
