LINK
New LINK
Reagan and Bush acted unilaterally on immigration....?
Then in the story, they go on to list where Reagan's action was specific to a LAW PASSED BY CONGRESS on immigration.
Then in the story, they go on to list where Bush's action was specific to a part of the existing laws, which CONGRESS PASSED a few months later.
Go ahead, AP - give the American public the Gruber treatment.

I saw that article. AP is as bad as MSNBC.

Segregationist George Wallace was a Republican.

Actually the comment "The House failed to act" under GH Bush is the exact same as under Obama where again, the House failed to act.
Both presidents took unilateral action. Reagans was the only unique one that was basically a precursor to an eventual law.
The difference between GH Bush and Obama? A GOP that has drifted a few light-years more to the right.

History told us that Reagan and Bush acted under congressional approval. AP writer Andrew Taylor claimed they acted unilaterally. Read the link and a history book.

My favorite part of the "article":
It's just like Bush.
Nevermind the whole passing a law through Congress thing

Reread the article.
Both acted unilaterally. There was a law passed in 1986.
There were flaws.
Congress was not able to pass laws to fix these flaws.
Both presidents acted without congressional approval to extend the "amnesty."

Native-born Americans suspect that it is they, and not the immigrant, who are being forced to adapt to social changes caused by migration. I must admit that I’m not entirely immune to such nativist sentiments. When I see Mexican flags waved at pro-immigration demonstrations, I sometimes feel a flush of patriotic resentment. When I’m forced to use a translator to communicate with the guy fixing my car, I feel a certain frustration.

You're all missing what the headline should really be:
"Obama to try same action on Immigration as Reagan/Bush I, expects it to fix immigration problem this time"
"Obama to try same action on Immigration as Reagan/Bush I, expects it to fix immigration problem this time"

I think we really need to see the scope of Obama's EO before really making any comparisons.

Yes, it is only because of the tea party that people oppose amnesty. Good job AP.

No joke, this is the latest DNC talking point, dutifully reported by the Ministry of Truth. Heard it repeated several times over the weekend. Classic propaganda machine workings if you're even halfway paying attention.
It's also BS. Both came on the heels of legislative action.
