I guess this answers the question many here have asked. How do they stay afloat with mediocre food? The answer, not very well.

I almost made this a thread, but then I didn't know what I'd say beyond the title, so I didn't.

Glad someone did. And the story isn't surprising.

Boutin’s owner Lynn Boutin says the restaurant will remain open throughout the reorganization process. He and his attorney decline any further comment at this time.

The one by the airport is a terrible location. You cant even see it. Not that I would go there. BTW, Tony's is 5 minutes away so there's that.

Yep, the second location is on Harding by the airport tucked behind two hotels. I live in Central and I was tempted a few times to stop and try out this location but I go Tony's everytime.

I bet the 2nd location has a lot to do with the hurting.

Their only business comes from busses of people from out of town (which perplexes me in itself) and the few old people left who like the place.

Spreading out that small amount of business between two locations seems like a bad idea.

Yeah, I think the first location was fine, or at least was doing good business every time I went there. Their prices were high too so I can't imagine they were hurting too bad.

Yeah. If the busloads of people happened to be people coming from the airport area, they no longer have to make that trek.

Maybe the owners really didn't realize that was most of their business

I'm just throwing out what-ifs here. Who knows?

Deck overlooks a swamp. Zydeco bands and a big dance floor. Places to park buses. It's not all that perplexing. People from Minnesota don't know that the food isn't good.

In early 2012, the restaurant expanded to a second location in Howell Place in north Baton Rouge. That location has since closed, however.

Guess that airport location was the anchor that finally brought everything down

Anyone consider the Bluebonnet location to be a good (not great) spot for a new restaurant to move in?

I'm on the fence on this one.

I meant perplexing as to how there are busloads of people that occupy BR nightly. Where are they coming from? Who runs this bus? Are these all people on road trips.. or..?

Is this sports teams or something? If so, how do they all know to go there?

Just seems like there's got to be some company setting up these busloads all the time.. otherwise, a Google search isn't going to lead that many busses of people to Boutins if you search good seafood spots in BR.

Basically, I'm wondering why all these people are in BR

I like the property, but it is kind of invisible. And I don't think BR has any "great" spots for a restaurant either outside of maybe Chimes.

The location is good enough. But whether a new restaurant will be successful there largely depends on two things: 1) The quality of the new restaurant concept and 2) How well that concept appeals to the market (the people that live, work, play, and visit in that area).

Wasn't this location a Mulate's first? That would explain the buses. I mean the buses are a carry over after Boutins took over.

Ohhhhhh.

Interesting.

Like I said, though, I understand why the busses here go there. But why are there so many busses here in the first place? I mean, this is nightly. I have never NOT seen a bus there. Where are these people coming from? I know they're not vacationing in BR on a bus
