Love my optima batteries....Red top in my 75 Bronco 10 years old still going strong never a fade out. Two yellow top's in my boat both over 5 years old with tons of draw down hours on both running trolling motor and electronics. Zero issues and still can fish a full 8hr day with no fade.

My wife's Denali was having battery problems and I put a yellow top Optima in it. Lasted about a year so I took the car into the dealership and apparently there was a service bulletin about the computer in her car. They reprogrammed it put a new battery in and we have had zero problems since.

Interesting. And it didn't throw any codes?

Good info guys.

It's sounding like I may run to battery world or interstate for my next battery. I've had decent success with Duralast batteries but I've seen a few crap out just outside of the warranty period. I'm up to try something new.

I've tried them all.

Now, all I buy is Duralast Gold. Half the price of an Optima, and from the average user's standpoint, indistinguishable.

No. Get a Deka AGM.

Excellent battery...

although I have a 5 yo pair of optima blues in my truck doing fine right now...

When I do need new ones, I will probably go with DEKA AGM's

For those of you not liking your Optima AGM's because they are dead...drop them off at my house...

I could use some good batteries...

hint...they aren't dead yet.

They may not be but blasting them with a high amp charge is only kicking the can down the road for them. Plates of Deka and similar AGM's are more durable and you can use a non-AGM charger on them.

no high amp charging necessary...you just have to have the right charger.

Most AGM's will be 100% after using...

sometimes you can bring back even the worst wet cells.

I had a yellow top in my old truck, never had an issue with it. Didn't pay full price though because I worked at a battery store at the time.

I don't think I'd pay the money for one now. If I was going to spend that kind of money, I'd probably get an Odyssey or something similar.

Also, a little battery FYI:

- Optima does not make a gel cell. They are sprialcell AGM's, which, to illustrate, are similar to 6 of your household alkaline batteries (AAA/AA/C/D) put together.

- AGM =/= Gel; don't assume that. For a vehicle, or cranking, application, AGM is the way to go. Gel cells are optimized for deep cycle applications. They also require special chargers.

I'm an electrical engineer and have never heard of this acronym. But I guess that's what you guys are for.

And FWIW I went and snagged a Duralast Gold today. It was easiest that way given my current situation. Thanks for the help dudes.

Good choice. If it ever goes bad, there's an autozone around every corner.

Most batteries are made by the same folks anyways. So choose what sticker do you like and what store is close to you. lol

Had a blue top for the starting battery in my boat. bought it 7 years ago and it was still as strong as the day I bought it a month ago when I sold it. I would highly recommend them.
