Regarding cost, TruckTrend says that Eco-diesel owners break even at 146,000 miles.

Don't think he said it would be any one specific manufacturer. He was just saying, the next half ton diesel will be a 5.0 V8 with 500+ lb ft of tq.

How so? I'm pretty sure I comprehended it correctly.

Downshift said the next half ton diesel will be a 5.0 V8, Coppertone asks for a link, you responded to Coppertone saying Downshift was speculating, I provided the proof.

Was I following that conversation wrong?

Hopefully the 2.8 cummins finds it's way into the mid-size truck market.

I would love to see Toyota take it.

Nissan already has one in a Frontier as a concept vehicle...wouldn't be surprised to see the next gen Frontier bow with some version of that motor. Also, I wonder how Chrysler and Cummins relationship will be going forward with Nissan getting contracts for their motors and Fiat having ownership of Ram and VM Motori.

frick that small diesel nonsense. I want the 5.0 cummins in a Ranger.

I hope Toyota sees and learns about the bugs in the 2016 Titan and fixes them for the 2017 Tundra.

Chrysler will still buy the cummins. It's the only thing that sells ram HD trucks.

Cummins had the 5.0 ready for Chrysler to take it. They didn't want it.

My bad.....thought he meant that it was for the next Ram.

While I think that is very true and a huge reason they'll never get away from Cummins...it wouldn't surprise me if they did. After all, the same guy who chased off the chairman of Ferrari, wants to bump Ferrari production to 10,000+ per year, and take Ferrari public on the NYSE is the same guy who technically presides over Ram. He isn't afraid to take a gamble if he thinks he can 1) cut some costs/make more money and 2) do it better.

He's a raging idiot if he drops the contract with cummins. Their sales would go to hell in the mid-duty truck market. They've got a pretty good share right now.

Ford should give up on building their own and start buying Cummins.

Think Ford will do just fine with the PSD in the long term without Navistar. If they wanted a boat anchor they could pull a real one from CAT like they do for the 650's.

Yeah, I'm just talking about a couple hundred more lbs, not a whole class diff.

Some F150s are rated at close to 3500 lbs. But obviously don't get 28mpg.

I think we're a model year or two away from that mpg w good payload capacity.

BTW two summers ago, i hauled a 4000+lb truck camper in my 7.3l F250 w air bags and rancho shocks (and ford towing/hauling package) from east coast to NW MT, the long way thru Durango, Telluride and Jackson. It didn't flinch. And truck got a clean bill of health afterward.

But that's basically a 350 with those shocks and bags--back then (1999). Same truck.

But @ 16-18 mpg (not terrible but meh)

Livin Lite makes some sub 2000 lb truck campers that are plenty big and well-equiped. If I could get close to 30 with it off, w a crew cab and 4x4 that would be a no-brainer rig.

Toyota says they are going to bring the Cummins too. I think Cummins is through with exclusive agreements.

I wish Toyota would bring the Hino motor. Those are tough trucks and very good diesel engines.

Just imagine their sales if they had a chrome C insteatd of that big 6.7psd emblem on the rocker panel.

Dodge would be out of the market if they didn't do something drastic.
