I think you'd really like Bear in Heaven.
Courtney Barnett rubs a lot of people the wrong way, but I love her. Worth a listen at least: Avant Gardner, History Eraser. Apparently I'm an idiot, these were also released in late 2013.
Bear in Heaven's album was released this year, though. I think you'd dig them.

I love vocal delivery like that. Lou Reedish almost. The little dissonant guitar solo in the middle of the first link reminded me of VU too.

This thread was admittedly tongue in cheek, but I do seriously think that "Midnight" may get some award consideration. It's a really smart and slick song and those committees love genre-bending projects like this - even if it's only for one song.
I kind of wish that the entire Coldplay album was like "Midnight" as the rest of the album sucked IMO. "Magic" is catchy as frick but the rest is rubbish.
