Leaving Dec. 26 to visit some friends and go skiing/spend new years up there. This will be my first time seeing snow in mass proportions so I'm pretty excited. I'll be staying in Fort Collins so where are some places I should check out while I'm there?

anything off I-70. from there Steamboat might be an option. I'd check out Copper. One of the easier places to get to, especially coming form the north side of town

Always colder than shite that time of year, and all major resorts are crowded. Be ready for it.

Tons to do in colorado. If you're going skiing and your friends are from there they should point you in the right direction... It's gonna be cold as shite in December skiing (or doing anything outside in the mountains) so be prepared. Ski bib, good gloves, goggles, etc. Last time I went in December the high for the day was zero and it was negative 40 at night.
never went to fort collins, so I don't know much about that area, but a trip over to rocky mountain national park would be worth it for sure.
Would also recommend going snowmobiling.. ton's of fun and they supply all the stuff to keep you warm and toasty.

Blaze the weed up, obviously.

oh yeah, last time I went I was 18 and weed wasn't legal.. I don't know if I'd leave the ski resort now. And i don't even smoke weed often at all.

If youve never been before make sure you take lessons. Will make it much more enjoyable.

Always remember that just because the drug marijuana is legal there doesn't mean you should do it. You could end up getting hooked on that stuff and destroy your life. Have fun and pack warm clothes.

yeah, lessons are good, even if you have to take them on your own without friends... a day getting used to being on ski's, learning to wedge, and just being able to get in line, on the lift, and off the lift without busting your arse in front of people you know is worth it.
Also stretch.. if you don't normally. cramping up while skiing sucks arse.

If you're into craft beer at all, Fort Collins is a Mecca for that sort of thing.
Definitely check out some of the local craft breweries. For a college town barely bigger than Lafayette; Fort Collins is definitely one of the top 3 beer cities in the entire nation.
New Belgium is the biggest, but I recommend checking out Funkworks, Equinox and Odell.
Mayor of Old Town is an awesome craft beer bar and pub with good food.
Oh yea, and definitely smoke weed everyday. Larimer county was one of the few that voted against having legal marijuana shops, but you can still find what you're looking for on craigslist without having to drive to the neighboring counties.
Have fun, I LOVE NE Colorado.

It will be very crowded at that time, I would never go around holidays.
Do not smoke weed on the slopes, it may be "legal" but it is not legal on Vail resort property and they will pull your lift ticket and blacklist you. Their lawyers got out ahead of this and dont want stoned people killing little kids.

Do they have the same laws for alcohol, seems silly otherwise.. Not that I don't think it's a good rule for both, but seems silly to have it for one but not the other.

Nope, they have full bar at all mountain eateries.

I am in golden now for work and it's been well below 0 all week but they have less than 5 perfect humidity so it actually feels about like 25 or 30 in the south. Check out golden and Boulder if you have a little time; both cool towns. The altitude takes about a day or so to get aclimated to as well so drink plenty of water and don't hit the slopes the minute you get there.

It is cold but not unbearable.

It is if you aren't dressed right.. I love cold weather and am hot natured... but it's fricking cold when it's zero for a high, windy, and you are out in it all day skiing. If he was going during spring break I wouldn't warn him so much... it's gonna be cold as frick dude. Seriously.
