Outside of the Vacation series and Caddyshack, Chevy Chase doesn't really do it for me.

Yeah, but those are better than anything Ferrell's done. No disrespect to either but Chevy in his prime > Ferrell.

There's only a couple of people I feel this way about, but hearing people talk about what Chevy Chase, I don't want to watch anything to do with him.

him.

I like certain Ferrell movies but the Vaction series, Caddyshack, and Funny Farm were great. My favorite Ferrell movie is Elf and the Other Guys.

Chevy always had a nuance that Ferrell never has had.

I know he tried to do it with "The Other Guys" but it was forced nuance.

I really like Will Ferrell...

But he's no Chevy Chase.

There's this anti-chevy sentiment lately that he is overrated...

There's a reason he was plucked from Saturday Night Live and sent straight to movies over everyone else in that talent pool.

Will Ferrell could never pull off Vacation.

Chevy in caddyshack will always keep him in the positive side for me.

Played perfectly.

Ferrell is great but he can't top Chevy's run in the 80s

Since we're only going by 1980-1989 and 2000-2009
Fletch I
Vacation I & III
Caddyshack-(although that was an ensemble thing)
Spies Like Us
Three Amigos

Step Brothers
Talladega Nights
Old School
Anchorman
Zoolander
Elf

I think the above are probably the most well liked films of both, but there are some others.

Pretty equal stuff and their cameos in other movies were also great.....but looking at their IMDBs and Ferrell just did SO MUCH WORK in the 00s. Including his SNL stint that ended in 06, some his great works were already out, in addition to doing animated work, putting out Funny or Die sketches etc, I think Ferrell as the better run but Chase as Fletch or Griswold match anything Ferrell did.

Of course it looks like I am bias, but honestly give Bill Murray over both of them.

Is there a 90s version of either of these guys?

Would have been Chris Farley until he died and the void was filled with several SNL guys that popped out together, Adam Sandler's run, David Spade and Mike Myers.

To the OP, I would go with Chase and I think Ferrell is one of the funniest dudes on the planet. Step Brothers, Old School, Anchorman, Other Guys and Talledega Nights are hysterical but not classics like Chase had.

It's more like an anti-chevy sentiment that he's an a-hole. There are rumors that close to everyone who has ever worked with him hates him and refuses to be associated with him anymore. People were also pissed off at him because it seemed like he was doing a lot of damage to the show Community. This doesn't really change how great some of the things he used to be involved with in the old days were, but it is the reason why a lot of people are cool on him now.

I also would only give him partial credit for Caddyshack. Dangerfield and Murray as well as writing and other small characters played more of a role overall in making that movie great.

Chase could've not been in Caddyshack and it still would've been just as good.

Chevy Chase, even though he's a huge a-hole IRL, is hands down one of my favorite actors of the 80's & 90's. Dude was great. Ferrell is good, but he's not on that level.

I find both of them funny. Both have made some epically funny films.

But Will Ferrell is much funnier than Chevy Chase individually.

FERRELL > Chase, and it's not even close.

Chevy Chase never did it for me. I've laughed a few times in the family vacation and family christmas movies and in three amigos, but I could not watch any more than once. Caddy Shack was not funny to me. I have enjoyed nearly everything Will Ferrell has done, have seen his movies multiple times, and will watch whatever movie he makes going forward.
