I would go to page 2 and look at the $25 grand to invest thread and then do the exact same thing as that but with $15 grand less.

Pretty sure there was a what to invest $9k in a few weeks ago as well. Go to that thread and add $1k to what they said to do.
Investment strategies are not going to change that much from having $1k-$300k to invest. Your options and strategy really only changes once you break the income or net worth threshold to become an "accredited investor".

I'd look at a few oil ETF's like USO,BNO, or DNO. They follow the price of crude oil fairly closely creating an opportunity for good, relatively safe returns in the next 6 months to 2 years or so.
