He isnt a good team basketball player, he racks up stats by shooting almost 30 times a night. No one the Pels have more than 14 shots, and the team is playing great.

Also don't give me is the only player they have, no reason to be doing the things he does.

The talent around him blows. Somebody has to shoot.

The guy with 5 rings isn't a team killer.

The guy with 5 rings and $20M+/year salary is a team killer.

His team would have had to had life to begin with for him to kill it. Pretty much all the teams that he's been on with any expectations have lived up to them.

The pels are 4-3, far from playing great.

Who do you want getting those shots? Bob Sacre?

That is just silly. I hate Bryant and the Lakers, but that guy is definitely worth the money. The Lakers made over 60M in profit last season and will make even more this season. Bryant is their major drawl. Not having him would be catastrophic for them. He actually helped them out by taking way less than the max, plus he signed early so they would have more cap room earlier this past summer (his cap hold would have been over 30M). The team is going to milk his celebrity, so he's only right to get a fair wage for it.

To an extent, yes. He has rings, but he has also played for the Lakers. He has been surrounded by a lot of talent over the years. Let's not forget that he is a big part of why th best team he's ever played for got broken up.

The guy is very talented, but he's also an a-hole and a chucker.

Yeah, ok. When the Lakers challenge the record in futility this year, we'll see how silly it is.

The Chris Paul deal, Dwight Howard being a bitch, and giving that contract to Steve Nash is what killed the Lakers. They also missed out on a few free agents they had their eyes on.
Also hiring D'antoini (spelling?) over Phil was a huge mistake.
Their lineup is beyond bad and if I was coaching that team, I would have Kobe shooting as much as he wants. Like someone else said, the fans are only there to see Kobe. Ride it out and prepare for the rebuild.

He led the team in points AND assists last night to go along with only one turnover. TEAM KILLER!!!

The selfish card is convenient for Kobe on this team, because if you look at total shots there's an obvious discrepancy. I'd ask you how many shots do you think Kobe should take on a team where Jordan Hill, Carlos Boozer, Jeremy Lin and Ed Davis are your next leading scorers? How many of those guys can create their own shot with any type of consistency? The Lakers are the worst defensive team in the league. If Philadelphia has all its pieces healthy, the Lakers are arguably the least talented team in the NBA. Kobe shooting isn't the problem.

How many Pelicans' players would you say are better than the Lakers' second best player, whomever you deem that to be (Boozer, Hill, Lin)? Davis, Evans, Holliday, Asik, and Anderson at a minimum, right? But Kobe is a team killer Lakers management killed this team. Kobe is old as shite and leading the league in scoring; he's doing his part.

“This always happens in America. Kobe Bryant, for example — why does he get a two-year contract extension for $50 million? Because of what he is going to do in the next two years for the Lakers? Of course not. Of course not. He gets it because of what he has done before. It makes no sense. Why do you pay for what has already happened?”

I'm sure the Lakers need to take business advice from an American soccer coach. I know the hate runs deep for Bryant. But people are not seeing this from a business perspective. He generates money for the team. People buy his merchandise, tickets to watch him and he moves the media needle by generating outside publicity. He has literally made that franchise hundreds of millions of dollars. You can not quantify his worth through a NBA contract. He is worth so much more to the team. If he played in baseball (where contracts were closer geared to revenue) he would be getting paid somewhere closer to 50M. Guys like Lebron James or Durant would be making 100M. It's short sided and unfair for people to ask him to take a pay cut just because he is an older player.

He missed 18 shots. A missed shot hurts your team almost as much as a turnover.

I can't stand Kobe, but how in the hell can you call a guy with 5 rings a team killer?

Is he taking too many shots?
Yes, but who else on that team has a chance to keep them competitive? No one.

Is his salary out of whack for what he brings to the table these days?
Absolutely. I'd argue that .Bryant's production for $23M is a better deal than EG's production at $15M (not an earth shaking revelation...I'll admit)..

Yeah, I don't get what people expect. The Lakers were going to be really bad this season anyway. But they have also lost 2 of their top 4 players for the season (Nash and Randle). Plus their 2nd best player is out right now (Young). How many teams would be competitive if they lost 3/5 of their starting line-up? Bryant is carrying a mighty big load..

He is German and played/coached in Europe for about 30 years.

It goes with the fact that the 3 most valuable sports teams in the world are soccer teams.
