The EBR sheriff keeps coming here to respond to a 911 call, from a line in my part of the office/building.
There's not a phone connected to the jack at all.
My fax machine is connected one outlet over, and my network on the other wall.

But anyway, I share this office with two other companies, and I'm not here throughout the day.
When I get back, they keep telling me the Sheriffs office is coming here to see what's up.

How the hell does a landline dial 911 when there's not anything connected to it?

Is it got teh aids, or is aliens, or is it aliens with aids?

I had this happen some years ago. The call to 911 was coming from the line I use for my fax machine at home. I couldn't figure out why they kept getting the call until they told me the number they were receiving. Finally, a cop came who said this happened with her home phone as well after a big rain. It had just rained a lot at the time. I still have no idea what was going on as far as how, but it stopped and never happened again. Very strange.

Something is dialing a number with "9911" in it? 9 gets you a ring tone and then it dials 911.

That particular line is not in use there is nothing hooked up to it however the fax machine next to it is in use but only gets used one time a day for a Houston number.

Yes, this happens a lot in offices that require you to dial 9 for external calls, and 1 for the country code if dialing long distance. People apparently pressing the 1 twice, and it immediately connects you to 911. They'll call back to verify it was a misdial, but nobody answers, they'll send a cop.

Turn off the fax machine for a while and see if it stops.

The line has a defect/short in it. We have those issues all the time out in the country where a line is underground but not in use. Usually when it rains. The short triggers a call to 911

If you want to post your office phone number I can enter a trouble report with the phone company.
