Should 11-1 Miss St be in the playoffs if Bama wins the SECW/SEC?

I ask this here because the MSB should give a less biased answer than the SEC Rant. If Mississippi State loses Saturday, but wins out other than that, and Alabama wins out, Alabama wins the SECW.

Obviously Bama is in if they win out. Mississippi State would still have arguably the best resume in the country and probably the "best" loss as well. If they keep things within two TDs Saturday, but still lose, I believe they will still get into the playoffs, and deservedly so.

I think it would take a loss by either TCU, Oregon, or FSU or they'll be left out.
Just like the BCS, late losses will hurt more than early ones

probably not...with five power conferences and only four spots, unless Miss State was competing for the 4th spot with a two loss team, probably no chance.

I honestly dont think so. The committee truly seems to be looking at the full body of work and not caring about timing

The committee is going to give a good bonus for conference champions. If Miss St doesn't win the conference, and they are battling for the 4th spot with a 1 loss conference champion... not good for the Dawgs.

Should? Yeah.

Will? It will depend.

Timing should matter, to me...teams are supposed to trend up throughout the year...LSU/Wisconsin seems like it was played last year.

The only way a second SEC team gets into the playoff is if it's Alabama. I don't think a 2nd SEC teams gets in regardless. This is a big part of why we have a playoff. All the other conferences didn't want 2 SEC teams in the championship again.

Well AU will have 3 losses in this scenario.
A&M/LSU already have 3 losses and we know at least 1 more is coming because they play each other.
Ole Miss will have 3 losses in this scenario.

My point is Miss St is relying on SOS to bump it over conf champs and that SOS is going down as SECW teams continue to lose. If UGA beats AU I don't think Miss St has any argument over a conf champ (1 loss that is, if someone like Ore,TCU,Bay,FSU lose all bets are off).

Assuming Oregon and FSU win out then the #1 seed has to be Bama, #2 Oregon, #3 FSU (sorry your conference sucks), and then #4...TCU's toughest remaining game is Texas on a Thursday night. State still has the Egg bowl which would be a better win, but if Baylor wins out forget it. Baylor's last game is Kansas State and they will be the Big 12 co-champ but should get the nod from the committee because of their head-to-head win over TCU.

State's best chance is to hope for a Baylor and TCU loss so the Big 12 has either 2 or 3 co-champs with 2 losses. With no "true" champion in the Big 12, despite what their commercials say, then State should be in.

They still would have games against Vanderbilt and @ Ole Miss. They would have a significantly better resume than Baylor/TCU. I don't think they get in over Oregon/ASU, but they should be in over TCU, Baylor, Ohio State, and a 1-loss FSU.

Bottom line is that Mississippi State should not be in or out based on whether or not Alabama beats Auburn to end the regular season.

The knock on Baylor would be OOC schedule...three terrible opponents...TCU played Minnesota, which, at this point, looks decent.

But the Baylor win over TCU should trump that...

It depends on how everything else plays out. Certainly they should be considered.

TCU's non conference isn't exactly chest thumping material either. We'll see how good the Minnesota win is after the Gophers next three games against Ohio State, Nebraska, and Wisconsin.

until there are 6 or 8 teams in the playoff, the committee will spread the wealth when possible with the belief that it is better for the sport and national appeal to have more geographic regions represented in the playoffs.

Like it or not, I think that is how it will shake out...I will be shocked if two SEC teams make the playoffs.

Its not "should" but they will, unless the committee pulls a switcheroo at the end on everyone.

The committee has shown time and time again that they value wins over the top 25. Miss State will have several.

Everything else we "think" the committee will do is just speculation.
