Just saw the trailer for this. What in the world are they doing casting a female as Peter Pan? And Christopher Walken has his work cut out for him if he's gonna compete with Dustin Hoffman's Captain Hook. Who's gonna be watching?

Peter Pan 1960

The OP reminded me of that abomination from watching it at a kid's camp.

Peter Pan has traditionally been played by a female.

Traditionally, going all the way back to when the play first premiered in London, a woman has played the lead.

She is beautiful but she fricking annoys the shite out of me when she's acting. Granted, my only sample size is "Girls" and I hate just about everything about that show, so that might be something to do with it.

Christopher Walken as Capt. Hook does sound intreaguing. My SO and I watched last year when they did "The Sound of Music" (Carrie Underwood ) and it was pretty good TV. I expect the quality to be high for a live performance.

“even the 1924 silent movie had a girl—Betty Bronson—playing Peter.” From there, casting a woman for stage adaptations became the norm, and the majority of prominent productions have seen a female in the title role.

Thinking was that children would have to be scaled down if a man played the part. Why a woman plays Peter Pan

I've only seen her in "Girls", but the previews show the same exact annoying Marnie smile the entire time. This is going to be really, really bad if the previews are any indication.

I'm only 29, but this thread makes me feel old. I loved the Mary Martin version of Peter Pan as a kid. Seems like they used to play it often cause I remember watching it quite a few times. And like others have said, Peter Pan was basically always played by a woman. I think the Disney movie was the first time he was obviously a boy. Since this is a 100 year old tradition, I don't really see what the problem is.

the problem is that all the superior millennials who don't know anything about the world before 1995 are really ignorant...of everything.
