It cool, funny. 80's USMC was kinda odd.

" My name's Gunnery Sergeant Highway and I've drunk more beer and banged more quiff and pissed more blood and stomped more arse that all of you numbnuts put together. Now Major Powers has put me in charge of this reconisence platoon."
"Well, well, well, well. I'm here to tell you that life as you knew it has ended. You all may as well go into town tonight. You may as well laugh and make fools out of yourselves. Rub your pathetic little peckers against your honies or stick it in a knothole in the fence but whatever it is, get rid of it. Because at 0600 tomorrow your arse is mine."
This movie had so many great lines. The writing was fantastic.

Gunny definitely has some great lines but I really don't like the movie. It's just that it depicts the Marines like a bunch of buffoons, or at least that particular unit. Then they go into "war". It was freaking Grenada and the battles scenes, if that's what you call them, were a joke. Fixing telephone lines, bringing your credit cars to war with you. All of it is stupid.
Ok, maybe my mind wasn't in the right perspective. I had just spent 10 hours yesterday watching "The Pacific" on HBO. A mini-series about real Marines, real sacrifice, and the real horrors of war.

I agree with you about the phone line thing. That scene is pretty bad.
I just love Clint in this movie.
Just because we're holding hands now doesn't mean we'll be taking showers to the wee hours of the morning.

Plus it was a recon unit. Last I checked, those dudes were squared away tactically.

This movie is one of the greatest military movies ever made

"The use of a credit card to place a long distance landline fire support is based on an actual event in the Operation Urgent Fury Grenada action. A US Navy SEAL rescuing the governor general placed a calling card call to SOCOM which brought an AC-130 gunship to bear on an APC that was firing on them."

Highway wins again.

It is an underrated gem of a war movie, no question - certainly one of Clint's Top 5 performances.
