Where's Jimmy been on here? I don't think I've seen him post in months since his 5 for 5 thread that didn't really reveal anything new.

Can't imagine why he wouldn't post with this type of reception

That's the first I've seen of us signing Christian Campbell. Where would he play here?
I don't know, but he called Russell Gage last year when most on here were skeptical that he would get in.(including me)

Can Tillery come in and replace one of our two seniors on the O-Line as a true freshman?

Yeah, that seems to be the angle we are pursuing that has him very interested again. From what I understand, the choice is his. He will likely lean that way because of familiarity.

Honestly, I would love him on either side.

That was a pretty clear hedge on 5 for 5. I thought it was pretty clear Gage was the first man in if we had a spot.

I also thought it was long clear gage would get in. He was long thought to be "first one up after a miss" and every year we miss on players. Every program does.

Also first I've heard of Tillery being recruited as a DL...interesting.

He's played a lot of d-line the last couple of years and don't think that's what he's suited for.

He doesn't have to

Pocic to LT and we have 2 true freshmen guards that were redshirted and were also highly recruited that will compete for both guard spots next year in Clapp and Brumfield.

I personally think Vadal is probably gone, but I think we can convince Hawkins to come back. He stands to gain so much by switching to the left side and having a great season, plus he can just see how Laells stock has risen. Haven't heard of anything in the top 4 rounds for Hawkins yet..

Therefore I think you go LT Hawkins, maybe RT Pocic, then fill the interior. Unless one of the young guys just has shown great things at Tackle then Pocic is more of a plug him where you need him guy.

I think he may end up the DL too, and honestly, it's a big advantage for us. We are thin at OT and DT, so Tillery can work at both positions in the Spring and Summer and settle on a position where he can contribute immediately. I think the coaches really like this kid as a player and student-athlete, so he'll probably have a lot of opportunities to figure out what position is best for him. I wonder if Les references Joe Barksdale when speaking with Tillery. Barksdale was a highly recruited DT that ended up playing OL, but he had the talent and opportunity to play both. Now he's a premier RT in the NFL.

Barksdale was also close to choosing a Midwest school before choosing LSU

I think he winds up flipping, and the option to play DL is a big part of it. LSU has really rolled out the red carpet for this kid, being treated like a top 5 overall recruit.

I don't see anything special except for a nice first step in Malik Jefferson. Why is he so highly rated? Jeffery Holland is a much better OLB than this guy. I don't know what kind of competition Jefferson is playing against, but it must be pretty good for him to be as high as he is. He misses tackles, hustles to get back, but still as physically gifted as he is he should be taking these High School lineman and running backs to the woodshed. He tackles well when chasing a player to his left, but if he has to tackle with his left shoulder he arm tackles and doesn't get his head in front. Just my opinion. He seems pretty quick and I guess good coaching is all he needs, but I just don't know why he's rated so high now. Unless it's based on potential and not current player production. IMO Holland has more potential as well. There's only one linebacker period that's better than Holland and that's Leo Lewis who projects as a MLB. Holland should be no 1 IMO.

ETA I wish we were more in the hunt for Holland. He has the swagger you want on your defense. Just like what Jamal brings. Something we missed last year. Hell of a football player. I think that kid is going to be special. That's it and I'm done with my Holland man crush for today.
