No! Read reviews on it. It's legit and cool.

If you are doing South Congress Cafe, make sure to get there as early as possible. I've tried going to brunch there several times, and the wait was an hour to an hour and a half.

Midnight Cowboy is a bit hipster IMO. It's supposed to be some place nobody knows about (everybody knows about it) and you have to have a reservation to get in, unless the red light is on. You actually have to ring a buzzer / doorbell to get into the place. All of the drinks are over $10 and are made at your table by a waiter who has a cart. If you have 10 people, you probably won't be able to sit together because I think they only have booths in there.

I had an old fashioned...it was ok, but I've had better.

I assume you are staying at the place near Champions (sports bar). You have lots of options.

Lamberts - Think upscale BBQ. This is a really nice place that has some amazing food. Not too pricey, but not cheap either.

G'Raj Mahal - Indian Food. Probably some of the best in town. Someone mentioned that it's a food truck, but it is actually a sit down restaurant now with indoor and outdoor seating.

Bangers - somebody also mentioned this place. This is a less formal place. People like the food. I thought it was ok. Their sides are good. Beer selection is great.

Crave - I've heard good things, and is close to where you are staying.

Franklin BBQ is the absolute best.....Better than John Muellers IMHO

Yes you will have to wait in line......I sent friends there a couple of times and they were amazed and said the wait was well worth it.

They did go to Mueller's and said it was good....though not in the same league as Franklin.

I agree that it's better, but only marginally. I never recommend it to visitors because it eats up so much time when you could be doing other things. You can get BBQ at LA BBQ or Mueller for less wait and less cost, and it's about as good as Franklin. I'm not waiting over 2 hours (probably closer to 3 or 4) to get BBQ that's only a little better than those other places.

I agree. I love Easy Tiger. I haven't had any food there, but the bar itself is really cool. Bartenders are nice too.

I'm going to G'raj Mahal tonight

Their Bangain Bartha is one of those things I crave constantly but I don't get over there much because parking is a huge pain in the arse. Iluv, you're within walking distance so if y'all like indian food I would highly recommend it.

Sub, do you know if it's still BYOB?

Easy Tiger is my lunch front runner right now. It's pretty close. I wish I could go to Franklin's but by the time I get there they would be sold out probably.

I'll have to look up Crave.

No idea. I haven't been since they moved.

iluv, hope you enjoy the trip. Austin is a great place!

You asked about bands. Crazy as it is, Galactic is playing at Stubb's on Saturday night. You can walk there from your hotel. That could be fun, and you'd all get to go to one of Austin's classic music venues.

Black Sheep Lodge is cool for some bar food/burgers
ABGB is a sweet brewery with good pizza and small plates
Home Slice pizza is fricking awesome
Bangers is unique, good, but you better be in the mood to put a bunch of sausage in your mouth
Paul Qui's food truck East Side King is great, and it's in the back of this great dive bar
Both are fantastic, but you can save yourself two hours, and go to LA BBQ vs. going to Franklin
Torchy's Tacos is a must

Agree, torchy's is good stuff. Also would recommend Gourdough's for dessert if you are on S. 1st for a fun dessert donut experience.
