I know several families who have split over the past couple of years...upper middle class types.across the board all of them have basically been decimated financially...living in crampy apartments with not enough room for their kids....aside from the psychological devastation of divorce it just seems like a terrible financial move.

It's cheaper to kill her.

Well, if they're used to being financially tapped out due to kids and spending beyond their means with two incomes, it hits twice as hard when they only have one.

You're absolutely correct.

You basically take the same income, and support 2 separate families from what was before supporting 1, not to mention all of the legal costs that you incur. Financially, it's a huge hit.

it is, which would mean that someone willing to go through divorce would have to be really miserable with their lives to go through with it

at least I would think

Not really; we have two good incomes and share the housing, education, and living expenses. If we slit up then we basically would be doubling the housing and living expenses.

A doctor buddy of mine's wife divorced him and she's getting $40K per month in alimony. She's doing just fine, and it's not unheard of for broads to come out way ahead in these things.

What's it worth to live with someone who makes your life miserable?

That's exactly what I have to focus on when I put on that pizza shirt and hat.

It is way too expensive for regular people. With kids under 5, the wife does not have to work. One income to pay for two of everything. Though, as one divorce lawyer put it, "even though my clients may be living in a trailer, it's usually temporary, but damn they are happy."

She's from a family of Third World thugs; her brothers would decapitate my pal and feed him to alligators if he went that route. Instead, he's retiring in 2-3 years, moving to Thailand and cutting off the ex since he'll have stopped working at that point.
