Its been 7-8 years since my house has been treated and I have been offered a Sentricon bait type system (respected local provider, not a national chain) for about the same price as the standard termite treatment.

The difference s that going forward the annual cost would be $285 a year vs $150 a years for inspection etc..

Given that the money is about the same, is the Sentricon more effective?

Any advice/experience greatly appreciated.

Im in the same boat so im looking for ansers too.

Ive seen people do the traditional treatment themselves and save quite a bit. You can buy the poisin from the local ag store.

I went with sentricon because although my annual was more, the initial treatment and additional trenching (every 7-10 years) was significantly more than initial with sentricon due to the linear footage they'd be digging. After 10 years I'll be in the same spot from a $ perspective. So conaider that.

Also, senricon is supposed to be the better treatment option....but I'm not sure there is any real way to judge that when it is said and done.

Whatever treatment that includes Termidor. Termidor is the end game for termites.

I became an SME on termite issues after $50K of damage was done to my commercial building.

Go with traditional, it is way more effective. A lot of companies have moved away from sentricon all together.

Googleing the topic seems to be leaning that way as well.

After working for Terminex for a while I agree with this. Traditional plus termidor is the way to go. Sentricon is effective but termites have to find the stations before finding your house. Once they find the stations they will eat it and die. With the traditional treatment they are exposed to the poison before finding your house.

Also know that if termites are found on or near your house during the inspection Sentricon will be more expensive.

The only disadvantage to traditional treatments is if you do landscaping or have a dog that digs up the treated areas.

Also look at the contract and see what is covered incase termites do get to your house. Some smaller companies only cover wood that is damaged. Some have a cap that they will pay and others may have a deductible.

This x1000.

Look, damage can happen even with a company's best efforts. Most companies understand the paying of a claim occasionally is the CODB.

Some will deny the issue, even when it is obvious that they screwed up the initial treatment. Then you have to lawyer up, which is a PITA.

READ YOUR CONTRACT.

I would do both. I had termites in my old house and the money you spend to fix damage is insane. The extra money is worth it.

That is what is around the perimeter of my house. Haven't seen a single termite since I put it down.

I work for a respectable pest company and you really have to do the research on both "systems" before you make a decision. As noted earlier a treatment done with Termidor should be good enough understanding that in 7-8 years it's gotta be done again. All the while hoping that the guys doing the treatment give a damn and do it correctly. Most reviews you read of online about the negative of sentricon are from back before the HD bait came out from Dow. There is no longer wood "monitoring" devices and then once termites are found put bait. Bait is 365 days a year now. Really more effective. Again research needs to be done because certain type constructions would benefit from one type of treatment over the other.

This. Terminix pulled mine all out of the ground and did a traditional treatment.

No such thing. They're just a notch above F&I guys at a car dealership.

I had termidor, but upgraded to both. Likely it's overkill but I am scared of termites.

When I upgraded with a different pest control company, they found that the previous company did not do the termidor job 100% correctly.

Personally I would not rely on Sentricon alone. termites could find your house before they find the bait stations.

If you had to pick one or the other, go with Termidor.

Sentricon is based upon science and the natural habits of termites such as there foraging habits and so on and is intended to kill entire colony with only roughly 10 percent or so having to eat the bait. Traditional treatments are based upon the termite crossing the chemical barrier and then it dies. Again it really depends on the construction style of the house to really know which one is better for your specific case.
