Does the IRS frown up online betting, or do they not care if you bet a couple of hundred dollars a year?

Also, which is the best place for a novice to bet on NFL/college football games? I came across sportbook.ag from the other thread on MB. Is it good? Any others?

It's frowned upon.

5dimes is the consensus.

I've had success depositing and betting in betonline. Haven't tried to cashotu and I'm like 800 from my rollover so it'll be a while.

They do send me spam even by mail and occasionally text which is annoying

5dimes was the best choice even a year ago, now im not so sure. I hate their rewards programs, not very user friendly.

I just put sone money on bookmaker, like it so far.

Check out a site called sportsbook review. They have exhaustive reviews and can steer you in a good direction. When you figure out which one youd like to try try to see if anybody can get you a referral, usually its beneficial to you both.

Depends on what state you're in, but for the most part no, gambling online is fine. I know that here in Florida, betting on sports on certain sites is completely acceptable. Not 100% sure if it's 100% legal but there aren't laws written against it if you do it on an acceptable website.

You can easily look up your state's laws. I suggest you do that. If you're really worried about it, find a lawyer and pick his/her brain. They'll know your gambling laws for certain and you can go from there.

The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 make it technically illegal, but it's only sporadically enforced. They shut down a bunch of poker sites in 2011. Not much since then. LINK

This is actually going to be a political issue going forward. Billionaire casino magnate Sheldon Adelson wants to preseve his brick and mortar market share, so all the 2016 GOP presidential wannabes have been making the pilgrimage to Vegas, pledging to crack down on internet gambling in exchange for his financial backing for their campaigns.

It is illegal and has been forever. But, yes it is 100% against the law and doesn't matter what book you use or where it is located.

It is such a stupid arse law no one gives a shite and it gets broken littetally billions of times a year by tens of millions.

Back in about 2001-2002, they actually cracked down on it and frozen the accounts and seized the money from the largest offshore book there was at the time betonsports.com.

God I miss that site. Their lines were terrible and you could adjust them however you wanted. If Tennessee was favored by 4 and you thought they'd win by 2 TDs you could adjust the line to -13.5 at +270 or so.

I use sportsbook and have never had any problems with them. I have deposited and withdrawn many times. The checks take a couple weeks to get to you and I have never had a moment of trouble with my bank depositing it. I don't have to give them my bank account information or my phone number or anything like that. Plus the free bets they give you are pretty awesome. I get a lot of 50% match bets on deposits with no rollover requirements.

They allowed about anything. They were really a monopoly back in 2000. I would guess 75-80% off all offshore accounts were with them.

I think the feds probably thought shutting them down and stealing everyone's money would stop the offshore gambling proliferation which was just starting.

It had the opposite effect. Broke the monopoly, frick tons of new books opened everywhere (not just Costa Rica), all those books started calling on the accounts that were seized and offerring aggressive bonuses and the industry really took off.

USed to be super easy until like 2006.

Could move money from your bank account directly to the site on Friday, place your wagersr until monday, then move yor money directly into your bank acct by Tuesday.

Tom Osborne (old coach from Nebraska) ran for Senate, won, passed legislation banning online gambling, now it takes an act of Congress to get paid in a timely manner.

Yet another example of gov't failing to legislate morality.

Also when the seized the accounts and all the new books opened, the bonuses were insane. 30% cash bonus with a three time roll was the norm for a while. Which caused a lot of those new books that opened to fail.

Exactly. It was was easy to load up on the credit card anywhere. Then, they squeezed that a bit, but you could then do e-checks. When things became technically illegal in '07 or so, it wasn't worth the hassle anymore to me. A few of my friends hung on with accounts until about a year or two ago. I"m surprised so many people on here are still playing.

How long did it take you for your payout? When it was Bodog, it took me a few months to get my $$
