Is there any other organization other than Biddy in Louisiana? The only other I know of is Lil Dribblers, but they are only in Texas I believe. Is there another organization around?
If not Biddy, does the league you know of just play Rec ball? With no all Stars?
I also know there is AAU, which I guess would be the same type of thing as Biddy, but is there anything else in LA?

What age are you talking about. What part of the state?

We have a local league in Ascension Parish. AYBA.

YBOA is probably the biggest.

If in ST. Tammany there is Pelican Park (meh), and West St. Tammany league (good play and coaching).
Depending on where you are located I may be able to help. We have a year round group here that trains, league plays, tournament plays, 3 on 3 plays etc.
There are several regional teams. A lot of bad groups to get in with.

Ouch, I don't know any groups from Laffy. I know we've played a team from there once or twice but I cannot tell you anything about them.
Be careful, some of these groups look at you as a mealticket when you bring your child to them. At that age you don't need seasonal AAU you need training. If you find a year around training group that's superior to seasonal Biddy/YBOA/AAU. Just my 2 cents from watching kids play AAU etc at a young age then get cut from JR High/High School teams.

You talking to me about AYBA?

They are forced to play zone. No man is allowed. No pressing is allowed. The coaches are lacking knowledge (no kids of my own, just hearsay). The refereeing is sketchy at best.
I am a basketball coach and feel that AYBA is a reason there is no talent in the area of AP. No kid learns how to shoot. No kid learns how to pass. No kid learns how to dribble. No kid learns how to play man defense. Granted, it isn't taught at the middle schools either so it just adds flame to the fire.
You combine the lack of fundamentals being taught with the influx of interest in baseball, soccer, and lacrosse have lead basketball to be the 3rd recognized sport if not 4th.

Most of that sounds right except the defense part. Zone defense is not allowed. You have to play man. No double teaming allowed unless ball is in the lane.

Only man? That's crazy for a couple reasons. Why not let them run whatever defense they want? If they are only allowed to play man....well damn it....teach it.

Yep, man only. I'm only familiar with U10 and younger so I'm not sure about the older leagues.

I may or may not coach but we focus mainly on fundamentals
That is the goal til 10yo

Baseball been around in AP,most popular youth sport (for boys)
Soccer has gained a lot in popularity
Where and what ages play Lacrosse in AP?
My 10 year old son and 8 year old daughter are playing basketball in AYBA this year.

My son is 10 and played in 12U last year. They are allowed to play Zone or man and you can also full court press. I don't think 10U will really have good ball handlers so not pressing makes sense for the league.
AYBA is not the reason of no talent in AP. People like John HotRod Williams & Fess Irvin not having a yearly camp is the reason for the shortage of basketball players in AP.
Basketball is probably 4th behind Baseball, football and Soccer - they just have more facilities to play in.

Hey now, I'm related to hot rod through marriage and he's got some really talented nephews. They just didn't like staying in college.
As far as Ayba is concerned, it's instructional. I think it's a great thing, where else could I have a 6 y/o learn the game?
