So I hear rumblings of a pop up show at a small venue to coincide with the Nola episode. True?
It happened a few months ago. They opened the windows and doors at Preservation Hall and jammed for a few songs (at least one with Trombone Shorty)
Eta: Unless you're referring to a future show. Then I'm not sure where that will be.

That was a great show; the wife and I were there. They played similar impromptu shows in each city while they were in town for the interview/recording process. They're now traveling to each city and playing again the night each episode airs. If they continue that pattern, there should be a show in New Orleans next Friday...

I've speculated tipitinas as the weekend is wide open. And it'd fit the music history angle as a classic venue.

Hmm...the private event is from 7:00 - 10:00 on Saturday, with a punk band called "Heavy Friends" scheduled to go on after that. I wouldn't want to be in a band that had to follow the Foo Fighters... ...but, anything's possible...

Heavy Friends are playing in the Den, separate area from where the Foos would hypothetically be playing

Thanks, Dirk. Unfortunately for me, I've never been to the Howlin' Wolf. Is the Den is similar to the Parish room at the HoB?

Interesting. While I know they did the Preservation Hall show, I haven't been following the Sonic Highways thing. Has it been the trend for them to play another secret show the weekend after it airs?
I know this isn't saying much, but I do know for sure that the band will be in New Orleans this weekend. Supposedly it is to screen the episode of the show, so I have no clue about a show.
Does anyone know if it will be first come, first served, or do you have to have a a ticket?

the way it has been working is they announce a show in the city of the episode on Tuesday for the Friday of the episode.
you have to have a ticket, and they are being very smart about it. for the nashville show, it was "ticketless" and you could not transfer tickets, so if you showed up with a different name on your ticket, you weren't getting in. they ended up releasing a couple hundred tickets the day of the show b/c they had been bought by scalpers/ticket bots.
the doors will open at 7-8, there will be a showing of Sonic Highways and the Foos will take the stage after

So the Nola episode was pretty damn good. Love that Allen Toussaint got a lot of love, along with Dr. John and The Meters.
One glaring omission was Professor Longhair. I don't think he even got mentioned by anybody.

I haven't seen the others, but this was an outstanding episode with great production.

Chicago episode was easily as good as this episode. I've only seen N.O. and Chicago eps, but both were out-fricking-standing.
Really wish I could have scored tix to the HOB tonight. I've never purchased a Foo Fighters cd/mp3/vinyl and I couldn't name a song of theirs under penalty of death, but I know that would have been an amazing show.

I've watched all of the episodes so far and this one and the Austin one are my two favorite. Granted I am probably a little biased with both of them.
I really love this idea though that the Foo Fighters are doing for Sonic Highways.

I am a massive FF fan. Own all their CDs and have every album on vinyl. I even have the side projects of all the members. I lost 2 fingers on my left hand in 2011 and took up drums after playing guitar since I was like 10. I learned drums by listening to live recording of Nirvana, QOTSA with Dave, and Foo. I met my girlfriend (probably soon to be fiancee) at a Foo show.
I would fricking kill to be at that show.

It is pretty cool. For the last album, Wasting Light, they did something similar. They had a contest where they would throw a party for the winners and play at their house.
Love em or hate em, they know how to do it. They're the last great "rock band" we have left.
