Warning to everyone with the Remington 770's (Walmart Academy guns)

I bought one of these a few years ago about 6 months before I saw the MSNBC expose of them. I am a lawyer and know a lot of gun experts and gun lawyers. They all said that my gun was fine and not affected by the recall etc. It was a starter gun for my son, and he has killed many deer with it.
This Saturday, when in the stand with him I loaded the gun, as like many of these models it is difficult to do as the damn bold just doesn't slide well even with fresh gun oil. It was dark and I was not sure it picked up the cartridge so I checked and It would not open. As I touched the safety to move it so that I could unbolt the damn thing when off. There was nothing within 2 feet of the trigger. It was about 40 degrees. (Watch you tube and you will understand why this is important.) If this had been my son i would not have believed it. This is the second occurrence with these guns at our little camp in the last 5 years. When I got back in there were several other stories of people having the same occurrence with these guns. Why these damn things are on the market I don't know. They did recall a bunch last year. I am filing a report, etc on this incident.
I understand that Remington are real mfers about this from attorneys that handle these claims. I am going to find out from my buddies what the fix it for this, but please be very very careful with these fricking guns, and I would not let a child touch them.
My son went on to kill a decent 8 pt, with a 260 Ruger btw.

A classic "Remington moment"

Almost got one about 6 years ago. Glad I got a Tikka instead. As they say, "buy cheap, buy twice" and "buy once, cry once".

I have a 710 and 700 Rem. Had the same issue with my 700 and it went off. Replaced trigger and safety

Hell I paid 400 bucks for the damn thing. (SS model) All I could find before Christmas, all Youth Rugers were gone.

Don't have a single Remington and don't want one.
Glad everyone was safe on the misfire.

In case anyone has one, the 710s are under recall too

How old is the gun. I thought they said in the MSNBC video that the new guns were fixed.
I wouldn't buy one anyhow. Too many other great guns for the sane price nowadays. But i understand you're Christmas issue.

Buy a Savage next time, they're everywhere and cost the same if not less for a more reliable rifle.

Don't you have to take the safety off to unload it? I bought one for my son about 15 years ago and if I remember, one had to do that. Other then that, for a cheap gun, it would nail tacks at 150 yards.

Just to clarify, anyone know if 700's bought in the early 80's have any issues? Seems I read something, just don't remember the specifics.

Can File a lawsuit for 400.00 to get your money back in your local court. Should be an easy win that case & could cause a shite storm of problems.

This. I think mine is from the 80's/earky 90's. Anyway to tell other than it misfiring? That's some bs.

Jeez, I just won one of these a few weeks ago. I had a guy sight it in for me and he put 40 rounds through it with no problems
