I posted this in another thread but a discussion at work brought it up so I want to see what the board thinks:
quote:

Think about it in a work environment and Cameron is a manager and miles is an executive

You have a salesman that is very well prepared but not very capable. He shows up early, stays late, always does the extra work, knows the products inside and out, is dependable and works well with others. He does OK in making sales but probably won't be a top performer over the long haul because he is severely limited in his abilities to close deals.

You have a new hire that is a female thoroughbred. Very attractive, very likable, presentation abilities off the charts. But she doesn't work very hard, relies on her looks and personality to get things done and doesn't know your product line. You know she could be your top employee but you don't know if she wants it.

You have a huge presentation coming up: you send out the first guy and he won't embarrass you but he also may not make much of an impression.

You can send out the girl and she could knock it out of the park, but she could also face one question that causes her to trip up and she loses the client immediately.

Which way do you go?

I say at the early part of the season, I would have gone with jennings. Now that the season has sort of played out, I start playing Harris more to kickstart the competition (and hopefully Harris' metivation) for next season.

I agree with your premise, but saying this

quote:

But she doesn't work very hard, relies on her looks and personality to get things done and doesn't know your product line.

in relation to Harris is not accurate. That is BS rant talk.

Yeah, Harris is an extremely hard worker. This comparison is flawed.

The only reason Jennings is starting is because the experience... I think Harris is legit competition spring/fall ball.

He's got a cannon of an arm... we need a mix between the two. Id rather AJ peg guys in the ankles than Harris throw to the safeties.

Dont think along the entirety of the season. Pick a game and run through the hypothetical for that game.

revisit the Auburn game. There are nerves, and then there is someone completely unprepared for the task at hand.

even he knows he is not getting it done off the field:

My thoughts have been MAJOR.. But my work ethic has been average. Won't see my results that way. Time to go harder.

when asked on Friday about Harris development, Miles said on SVP and Russillo that Harris has to get better at the management of the team. That is from the sideline, to the huddle, to the LOS, to the snap. Miles was not talking about ability, he was talking about being prepared.

Have we heard anything about Harris being lazy?

I have just heard Jennings is extremely hard working. Lives in the film room.

Not that Harris never watched film or never works. The kid spent every spare second in high school throwing to whoever would catch a pass it seemed like.

Well he better prepare his tail off this off-season so he can win the job.

everything sounds good except for this. Everything we have seen says that Harris really wants to be our QB and works really hard.

What happens if Miles names Harris starter for the rest of the season and Jennings decides to transfer?

Let me tweak your analogy:

Think about it in a work environment and Cameron is a manager and miles is an executive

You have a salesman that is very well prepared but not very capable. He shows up early, stays late, always does the extra work, knows the products inside and out, is dependable and works well with others. He does OK in making sales but probably won't be a top performer over the long haul because he is severely limited in his abilities to close deals.

You have a new hire that is a female thoroughbred. Very attractive, very likable, presentation abilities off the charts. But she is brand new, inexperienced and doesn't know your product line. You know she could be your top employee but she could also be a spectacular failure if you push her too quickly.

You have a huge presentation coming up: you can send out the first guy and he won't embarrass you but he also may not make much of an impression. He is also likely to win a few easy sales, but unlikely to be able to reel in the big one.

You can send out the girl and she could knock it out of the park, but she could also face one question that causes her to trip up and she loses the client immediately.

Which way do you go?

My answer: I'd send them in together. Just like I'd do with Harris and Jennings for the next two games and the bowl game. Not together obviously, but I'd have them split the reps. Get Harris some experience and make sure Jennings knows his position isn't secure.

By his own admission and others on this site your assessment is not correct.

I think that's "coachspeak." I think he's someone who works hard and his antidote for failing is to work harder. I doubt he really believes it.

truly the best case scenario and what we hope happens now that the SEC West is out of reach.

I'd feel better than I did knowing JJ was going to play his last game as a senior.
