But the government of the state of New York sees things differently. The Giffords, who own the bucolic Liberty Ridge Farm in upstate New York, were ordered to pay a total of $13,000 — a $10,000 fine to the state and another $1,500 to each member of a lesbian couple to compensate them for “mental anguish.’’ All because the Giffords, devout Christians, refused to hold a same-sex wedding ceremony on the property on which they live, work and have raised a daughter, 17, and a son, 21.

Somewhat OT, but weddings outside of a church (or courthouse if the person can't manage a church wedding. And yes, I'm using "church" to refer to religious buildings of all faiths) make absolutely no sense to me.

In summer, wedding ceremonies and receptions also are held on the farm.
I found their problem.

Their "mental anguish"?
frick them.
frick them.

I am so sick of this shite.

I'm sorry, but I think those women are the only hateful people mentioned in the article. The owners of the farm did not refuse their business for a wedding reception; they refused them holding the wedding ceremony. Yankee Stadium engages in public accommodation. Do the owners of Yankee Stadium have the right to decline wedding ceremonies since they allow other public events?

LSU fans should be given $1,500 each for their mental anguish from Saturday night.

Next time, the family can conveniently leave a large amount of manure on the property during the ceremony and do other things which are legitimate farm functions that will impact the enjoyment of the unwanted guests.
I normally wouldn't recommend that, but getting a huge state judgment against them for refusing to host an event is horseshite.

This shite is getting out of hand. Does "private property" even exist anymore in liberal states?

And an extra 1500 for the Saints game too.

If I want to get married on a beach, a mountain, or a ranch, then why is that a big deal? I don't think God or Jesus really give a flying frick where you get married, they just care about the holiness of the union.

Why? Does God live in a building? Do vows made at a farmhouse not count?

How is the situation in the OP even possible? What has this country come to?

Sermon on the Mount is disqualified. Didn't take place in a church.

So, if I want to have a huge Satanic wedding and celebration on these people's property, is the state of NY gonna force the property owners to do it? This is fricking insane, but nothing libs do anymore shocks me.

Depends on how it is done. A marriage is two people dedicating their life to each other AND the community' s recognition of that union (and God's recognition if you are religious).
A beach (aka destination) wedding makes it all about the couple and leaves out the community part.
Unless you live in CA and you also invite your friends and family to the beach.

Has the NY state supreme court taken up a issue like this before?

Might need more details, but this bugs me less than a baker or florist being compelled to create something for a gay wedding.
This is letting people use your facilities while the others force someone to create something against their will.
Maybe I am splitting hairs, but it seems different.

In Oregon, Christian bakers who refused to sell a wedding cake to two lesbians face hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines.
In Washington state, an elderly Christian florist could face hefty fines after she refused to provide wedding flowers to two gay men.
A Christian Colorado baker is appealing a judge’s decision ordering him to start baking wedding cakes for homosexuals and to provide his staff with sensitivity training, after he refused to create a wedding cake for two gay guys.?
The US Supreme Court this year declined to hear the case of a Christian photographer from New Mexico who claimed that refusing to shoot the commitment ceremony of two lesbians was an expression not only of her constitutional right to religious freedom, it was protected by her First Amendment right to free speech. New Mexico’s Supreme Court and the state’s Human Rights Commission have decreed that her refusal to shoot equaled unlawful discrimination.
