Thinking of upgrading a 2009 MacBook Pro
Posted by Wayne Campbell on 11/9/14 at 10:13 am00
Other than upgrading the RAM, any suggestions for other upgrades?
It runs well, only recently has it started getting a little glitchy.

HDD-->SSD will have the most effect.

Is it a pretty easy process? I'll admit to not having much tech experience.
I'm sure there are how-to's available.

It's a good SSD, but unless it's the 840 Pro, you'll have to upgrade the firmware on it. It suffered from a controller bug that caused the read speed on older files to slow down. It was fixed with new firmware, but I doubt Samsung has pulled all of their existing inventory from every vendor and applied the fix on unsold drives.
It's very easy to update (Samsung made a program that automates the process), but if you want to avoid any and all extra hassle, a safer and cheaper choice is a Crucial MX100.
