Two Republican nominated justices just voted to continue to treat gays and lesbians as second class citizens

This is awesome news A Supreme Court review is now all but inevitable. Marriage equality will be the law of the land by June 2015

quote:

The same-sex marriage movement lost its first major case in a federal appeals court Thursday after a lengthy string of victories, creating a split among the nation's circuit courts that virtually guarantees Supreme Court review.

The 2-1 ruling from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit reversed district court rulings that had struck down gay marriage bans in Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee.

More important, it gives Supreme Court justices an appellate ruling that runs counter to four others from the 4th, 7th, 9th and 10th circuits. Those rulings struck down same-sex marriage bans in Virginia, Indiana, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Utah, Idaho and Nevada and led to similar action in neighboring states.

Republican-appointed Judge Jeffrey Sutton, one of his party's leading judicial authorities, wrote the 42-page decision, with fellow GOP nominee Deborah Cook concurring. It delivered a rare rebuke to proponents of same-sex marriage, who had won nearly all the cases decided from Florida to Alaska since the Supreme Court ruled against the federal Defense of Marriage Act in June 2013

Marriage isn't a civil right.

I support it generally, but it's not a civil right.

bullshite term. Homosexuals can get married now just like the rest of us. I'm sure many are already married in every state in the union.

Why would the Supreme Court review it when they said they wouldn't take appeals on gay marriage rulings? Or do you just think that they will because it's convenient for your movement?

I honestly don't understand why anyone would be opposed to marriage between consenting adults. As I have said before. This genie is out of the bottle and the bitch ain't going back in.

Wrong.

Marriage is a fundamental and constitutionally protected right and has been so affirmed as just that by the Supreme Court of the United States 14 times in its history.

Yep.

How about we just keep the government about of the marriage business completely?

sexuality, race, religion...this is all you ever talk about (and from a pitifully naïve and uninformed perspective)

I support gay marriage, but I hope you're never able to

It's a circuit court of appals that upheld a ban as opposed striking it down with the others unanimously. It created a split and differing opinions and the Supreme Court is basically obligated to resolve the differences.

I don't even see why it has taken this long with all of this discussion

it's a contract (one presided over by the government), that two consenting adults of a particular pairing are being denied making because of their genitalia (and on religious grounds)

I hate the feds and they're incredibly bloated, but it's a federal question, and theoretically should be an easy slam dunk win when it goes to the SC

This argument was weak when it was used by those arguing against the legalization of interracial marriage, and it's still weak now.

Agreed.

It's a 14th amendment violation and all 50 states in the union ratified the 14th amendment. Guess who's losing if that argument holds up?

This is the same rationale that was used against interracial marriage.
