We got a lease out there this year and I was debating on whether to go or not. Any hammers or is it 120" max type of deal?

You got a couple hundred grand worth of 'struction work needs doing? If so I'll take you.

My dad used to go out there a few years ago. He would tell me about seeing more deer in a day than he has seen his whole life. He killed good 8 points everytime he went. I would go if given the opportunity.

Yea, that's the thing. 11 hr drive for me. Pretty much burn a day going and one coming. My hunting days are limited so I'm trying to make sure it's worth it. Got pretty good hunting at my club that's an hour away

If you've never hunted out there, it's worth seeing once. That is a pretty cool area of rural arse west Texas, but If you've been there/done that and have options closer to home Id probably pass. The deer aren't as big as they are further south.

I hunted there for a couple of years. Lots of deer. My friend killed a 12pt there. Racks aren't as big as other parts of Texas but still a cool place to hunt.

Had a friend of mine that leased a ranch out in Sonora. There was a 184 killed the year I hunted out there with him. Saw a 160+ on my hunt but was too far to shoot. Don't know if you like to turkey hunt or not but you will not believe the amount of turkeys in that area. Hell yes you should go. There are a lot of commercial operations down that way which tells you all you need to know. Only negative is the over abundance of rattlesnakes. Take boots with hard soles. Very rocky ground

I've never hunted in that area, but several years ago I was driving that stretch of I-10 and it was right before dusk and I saw dozens and dozens of deer on the right of way off the shoulder of the interstate. It was early Spring and there was some green, new growth grass that they were eating on. I was going east bound and saw a deer get hit by a semi that going west bound. The impact threw the deer onto the hood of the semi into the windshield.

Sonora is worth seeing. I've hunted there twice as a kid with my grandpa and twice as an adult living in San Antonio on work related paid hunts. There's not a damn thing out there but scrub brush, hills, rocks, deer, and turkey. The high fenced areas feed the deer high protein year round and grow hammers. The free range places don't have as big a deer, however. You will see several hundred deer at a time out there when the lunch bell rings.
I did take a big Axis not too far from Sonora the fall of 2006.

I went to Del Rio last year and had a blast . Tons of bucks running around . I saw15-20 8pts or better each day. I would say it would be worth the trip

LMAO
I hunted in Ozona for 10 yrs. (30 miles West of Sonora)
Lots of deer in that area ; however we never killed any monsters , mostly 120-145" deer .
The guys I hunted with were from Monroe, Oak Grove, and Bonita

I hunted just south of Big Lake and yeah there were tons of deer but not many trophy bucks. The biggest deer I saw had half his rack broke off. Saw more turkeys in one day than I had seen in my life.
There were better bucks around Sonora though, we used to ride around a night just looking.
If you want to go tag out in a couple days you can do a lot of killing in a short time.

Thanks folks. I think I'm gonna try to get out there. Coworker took a client out there last week and they both killed 8-pts the first day. Wasn't a whole lot to em though. Gun season goes up in to February so I may wait till deer/duck around here is over.

BIL was on a lease there for about 3 years. This is a few they killed along with a crap load of turkeys.

Um, if he's close enough to rough score from sight, then he's close enough to shoot at.
Unless bow/shotgun/etc. hunting.
