What is Amazon Echo?

Amazon Echo is designed around your voice. It's always on—just ask for information, music, news, weather, and more. Echo begins working as soon as it hears you say the wake word, "Alexa." It's also an expertly-tuned speaker that can fill any room with immersive sound.

That ain't no Blue Tooth speaker, that's Big Brother.

They do have a microphone off button. It seems like a decent deal for bluetooth speaker.

I was just reading about it on The Verge. Seems pretty damn awesome especially for 99 if you are a prime member.

I don't think I have a need for it yet, but it looks very nice.

The video makes it look cool...if you had one in every room of the house. I'm not sure how it's a better solution than your phone as a personal assistant.

If it has solid sound, it will almost be worth it for the wireless speaker at $99.

First the Fire TV stick and now the Echo. This is what I feel like as a Prime member with their Prime member, limited-time only deals

Why would you buy Echo?

quote:

Right now though, the Echo's a speaker that plays music in your bedroom, living room, or kitchen, priced comparably to other speakers its size and style — the kind that sell like hotcakes on Amazon.com.

Amazon took a product that's becoming increasingly common in our lives and crammed some future tech inside, in the off chance it can Trojan horse its way into every room in our homes. Apple did the same thing with your phone. Some people called that crazy, too.

Wonder if this could ever be linked to home automation to use voice commands to turn off lights or adjust the thermostat.

It's going to be a while. We need to give Apple's HomeKit a few years to fail before it adopts Google's tech to invent a new industry standard.

eta did google search on 'total connect' (honeywell's android and iOS app) and 'tasker' and look what the second hit is

No TD in the results for me, I assume that's why you're laughing. You're getting the CAD curation experience.
