I am saving for a house, and I plan on buying one in 2-3 years. From my research, I've gathered that given that time frame, the best option is a high-yield savings as it is risk free and there is too much risk in other investments in such a short period of time.

What are some banks I should look at?

Right now, I just have a checking and savings account with Fifth-Third Bank, which doesn't have a great return. I also have a Roth IRA that I just opened up which I will max out this year, and all subsequent years.

I use Cap One 360. I have used it for years. No problems.

I opened one with GE Capital Bank not long ago...getting an extra $11-$13 per month on $15k emergency fund. Not sure if they're still running that special though.

Check with local banks and credit unions. Mine offers a checking account with 2.4% APY if you make a certain number of transactions and have a direct deposit each month. You can do this for up to $10K. Its not much, but its more than a savings account or CD is returning right now.

I've basically come to the conclusion that NONE are worth the hassle, especially with the prevalence of bait and switch type tactics as you allude to here.

I've just accepted the realization that I will hold a certain block of money in a regular nothing paying savings account and that's that.

I agree mostly. My cash was just sitting in a MM account with Chase so I decided to make the switch. It wasn't much of a hassle at all to make the switch.

Capital One has a promo going on right now for 1.25% for the first six months if you have a balance of 10K+. After six months, you can transfer it to a Capital One 360 account and get 0.75 I believe.
