seems a little petty on Alabama's part that just when UAB starts showing signs of life as a football program then the Tide feel threatened

Who was in charge of reading that letter to Roddy?

Are you sure this has anything to do with UA being scared of UAB's football program? I'm pretty sure UAB receives tons of funding from UA. I don't really have any strong opinions on this but if that's the case, why should UA be obligated to go above and beyond for UAB? Is UAB not capable of running and or funding themselves? I'm pretty ignorant to facts in all of this so don't take my post too seriously.
And, from doing some quick reading, is it just me or is Paul Bryant Jr. a real dick???

I'm not even specifically talking about just that. Unless these decisions and positions he takes are to lead to the shutdown. If that's the case(which thinking about it now, is probably the case), then holy shite this guy is a snake, unless I'm just missing something.

Has he ever accomplished anything in his life other than be born with a famous father?

Yeah, he is very successful.
Bryant Sr. coached when coaches didn't make a whole lot of money but one thing he did was use his status to get involved in all kinds of business ventures.
Paul Jr. has managed those and made them grow a ton. He started Bryant Bank a few years ago and has done very well.
I was pledge sisters with one of his daughters, the other two were in our sorority but one was a senior when I was a freshman and the other had already graduated, so I didn't know them very well. The Bryants were like our parents if those of us from far away needed anything.
I can't speak to anything other than what I know but Mr. Paul was always very kind to me. I didn't have a dentist in Tuscaloosa - I would just visit my dentist where I grew up when I came home for visits. I broke a tooth one night (no, not drunk, hit it with a door) and Mr. Paul called his dentist at 9:30 PM and drove me to go get it fixed that night.
I found out later he left a client dinner to help me out.
He may be a complete arse when it comes to business but 24 years later and I still remember his kindness to a freshman from Florida, 8 hours away from home with a broken tooth.

PBJ stopped UAB from hiring Jimbo Fisher.

If his name was anything but Bryant, he'd be a nobody.

I don't think anyone gives a shite about UAB football including people in Birmingham.

Greenetrack was a quick success, and Bryant expanded nationally, opening tracks in Idaho, Iowa and Texas.
Dog racing, like horse racing, has been in decline since the mid-1990s. When Greenetrack’s profits plunged, Bryant gave it away, in 1995 granting half to employees and half to Greene County. A year later, the county, one of the poorest in the U.S., went bankrupt, in part because of a sharp reduction in tax revenue from the dog track, according to a 2009 study of the bankruptcy in the Journal of Public Budgeting, Accounting & Financial Management.
Bryant pivoted from dogs to cement. Greene Group bought Reynolds Ready Mix in 1995 and renamed it Ready Mix USA. They used money from Alabama Re to fund the purchase, ownership records show and Phelps confirms. In 1999, Greene Group bought a majority stake in Harvest Select Catfish Inc., a company that raises the freshwater scavengers in 4,410 acres (1,785 hectares) of shallow ponds in Alabama and Mississippi.

here's my thing... it's an indictment on the University of Alabama Birmingham that they're not in positions to make these decisions... maybe if they were a real school with real fans, they'd be able to decide for themselves what sports they have
