I don't think it's reasonable to say that he really was a secret agent, but was he labotomized or was it all a part of his trip and he woke up at the end of the movie?

he was at recall the whole time. he got exactly what he paid for.

then because his mind was so fricked up from the dream, he went home, killed his wife and stalked some brunette model spouting something about being a secret agent.

All part of the trip.

He paid a company to provide him with an athletic brunette where he was a secret agent that went on adventures.

And that's exactly what he got.

I prefer thinking of it as a straightforward story and the trip to Recall messed up the bad guys' plans.

I love the scene from Hot Shots part II where they reach the TOTAL RECALL body count.

Verhoeven states quite clearly in the special edition DVD commentary that Quaid is on the table at Rekall living out a fantasy. He points out that the imagery on the screen at Rekall show the alien machine, the girl of his dreams and a blue sky over Mars. All of which we see later.

I don't think he was a real secret agent. I think it was all part of the experience.

Id get excited when I saw it on the guide, and every god damned time I went to record it, the new one was playing. Talk about a let down.

Yeah, this hasn't been answered. Has Veerhoven confirmed whether or not Quaid was lobotomized?

But there was the doctor who came and tried to inject him to end his trip. That bead of sweat cost him his life.

The whole theory about him still at Rekall gets thrown out of whack when you remember that there several scenes without Quaid in the movie and he was dreaming about Melina and Mars before he went.

Going with "really was a secret agent" because some for real jackhammer worker ain't getting 1990 Sharon Stone.

Sharon stone has never been hotter than she was in that movie.
