Shot Placement on deer (bow hunting)

I don't bow hunt as much as I would like to, but today I shot my second deer with my bow, and have still yet to actually kill one.
Shot a spike two years ago with a g5 montec 15 yards quartered away just behind the shoulder. Had good blood for several hundred yards. Never found my arrow, and lost blood and never found the deer. I actually think I killed the same deer later in the year with my rifle.
Now this morning, had a perfect broad side shot on a big 8 point, 25 yards. Shooting schwacker broad heads now, and pretty much same story. Watched the arrow hit him just behind his shoulder. The arrow broke off just behind the broadhead and came back out of the deer. Found it 10 yards from where I shot him with blood 8 inches from the tip. Assumed it was a good shot. Blood trailed him several hundred yards and the blood went from pouring out to one drop every 15 yards to nothing. Gave up the search after about 2 hours of looking.
Sorry for the long write up but I'm just wondering what I am doing wrong. This would've been my first buck with a bow and I'm pretty bummed about it. To make things worse I've got to go back to work tonight and I'll have 14 hole days to worry about it.

Did you track those deer with dogs?

That's what I was thinking. There's a great chance both of them died.

How long did you wait to track?

Came back the day after with decent deer dog on the deer two years ago.
My lab strained her knee day before yesterday so I've got her resting or I would've had her with me today. Still considering going back shortly with my buddies pits to look for it.

How long did you wait before trailing them? Most people rush.

You need to get some dogs out there

From what u have posted it sounds like your doing things right.
shite just doesn't always work out like it should sometimes.
I'm glad that didn't happen to me on my first bow kill attempts because I would NOT have stuck with it.
Keep fighting the good fight bro.

quartered away just behind the shoulder
On quartering away I aim a little further back on the deer to try and get both lungs.. Chances are you just hit one lung on this shot and they will go a long ways with only one l lung hit...

So where did the arrow go in
high...low...behind the shoulder could mean alot
Its also good to understand the anatomy of the animal you are hunting

It hit dead center mass, just behind his elbow.

Don't take this the wrong way just trying to understand the shot so I can help you out.
Center Mass is a term that is not used in Bow Hunting ...was his leg forward or back? Look at this Anatamoy Pic...Center mass behind the elbow would be in a dead space...just because of his leg position.

From the looks of that picture he should've been double lunged. Hit somewhere in between the lower part of his shoulder blade and his knee.
And what I meant by center mass is dead center of his body up and down.
What's throwing me off is that I didn't get a pass through. Like the broadhead hit bone on the other side stopping it from going through.

You probably got out of the stand too early. Wait a minimum of 45 minutes on a bow shot. I have had the same thing happen to me also

It's possible to shoot a deer quartering and have the arrow pass between the shoulder and the rib cage without ever going through the ribs. Happens more often than you think.
If you put an arrow 8 inches into a deer's chest cavity, he died.

You may be shooting too forward. I try to make a line up from the front leg and shoot low of the deer in the event that it ducks the arrow.

has nothing to do with the broadhead! that is just all personal preference
