Got a message asking about vehicle, then said they would pay by PayPal and they would send a hauler. I checked area code and it's New York City. Wanted to know if I had PayPal. I messaged back that there would be no more information passed until identify is confirmed. Nothing since.

You'll get lots of those. Ignore them. Only deal with local folks. At least that's my opinion after selling one vehicle off CL

They will give you the identity of a real person and even call you. Just forget about them because it is 100% a scam. Unless they want to come see it, it is a scam.

First email about it if it is a legit person should be a bunch of questions asking about the car, not for your PayPal info

anything not Cash in hand for a car on CL is a scam. They want you to hold it, tell them you need cash.

Also even if you DO have the ability to take cards and checks, don't.

sold one recently. definitely a scam. they may respond to you, but do a little research. they will send you a fake email that looks like it is from Paypal. just sell it in person and take cash only

I am currently selling a truck on craigslist. Get ready for a lot of these messages:

"Hello, kindly send me the firm price and condition of your vehicle."

I get around 3 or 4 of those a day.

I can't wait to get this thing sold so I can take my contact info down.

These are usually used car dealers or someone working for a used car dealer. They surf CL and try to find lowball or fixer uppers to flip.

Rule #1 with Craigslist is to create an email account and (Google Voice) phone number specifically for craigslist. Keeping your contact info off of CLhelps as well. Use some type of requurement that the responder use intelligence in their reply like replacing @ with "at" .com with "dot com" etc. Bots are out there doing work 24/7

If the response does not specifically identify your vehicle, you can bet it's a generic reply being sent to every post and obviously not an interest in your vehicle.
