Comments on the WAFB FB page for this story are interesting...some people say they saw the trailer in their neighborhood & driver was drinking. Some girl named Sadie says the driver, her mom, was not drinking, and the one airlifted to the hospital was her uncle.
So there were 4 people riding on the 4-wheeler and 20 kids in the trailer?

My uncle wasn't driving my mom was. Why would I lie about that? My mom, me, and my aunt were thrown backwards into the trailer off the four wheeler. Doug was on the bars of the front of four wheeler he was thrown onto the road.

Found the 55 sign near Cane Market and Walker Road.

She probably shouldn't be commenting on that, especially if she is a minor and the inevitable future pending lawsuit.

Walker road is 447 but yeah, it's 50 for a little ways west of 447. I had forgotten about that. Springfield subdivision I believe is in that short 50-55mph zone

I blame the driver of the suv.
Speed differential is what causes accidents like this. If you are driving on a road going 55mph, you are expecting a vehicle ahead of you to be going at least 40 or so, not 15mph. Your brain is going to take a second to process that, especially when your depth perception and rate of catching up to that vehicle is thrown off by the fact it isn't giving off a full vehicle profile due to its A) size and B) probable lack of lighting.
The only person at fault is the driver of this "hayride" and the idiots who put their children on it.

I wouldn't say the front of the van is totaled. It's certainly severely damaged, I wouldn't classify it as totaled though.
I've been around body shops since I was 10 years old.
I'd guess that vehicle was moving at least 30 mph more than the vehicle it hit.
Those headlights are about a foot higher than their original location. The radiator support looks pushed back 6 inches or more. The windshield appears to be missing. I think I see both airbags deployed.
That's at least a $5,000 repair. Probably more than the value of that minivan.
I wouldn't say the front is totaled. The whole firkin' minivan is totaled.

Major thoroughfare in a rural area. Long road with curves. They had no business being out there!

A group of children suffered “minor to moderate” injuries Friday evening when a man driving a four-wheeler struck a hayride trailer in Livingston Parish.
According to other posters this is erroneous reporting. Damn media.

Ashley Posey, 37, Denham Springs, was pulling the trailer-load of children with a 2009 Honda ATV. Behind the trailer, Victoria Farr, 33, Denham Springs was driving a 2013 Mazda CX-5.
“As the ATV pulling the trailer traveled westbound (on Cane Market Road) the Mazda driven by Farr struck the rear of the trailer,” the release says.
The injured man, who was riding on the front utility rack of the ATV, was airlifted to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. Sandifer did not release the man’s name. The children were taken to local hospitals.
State Police cited Posey for off-road vehicles; (lack of) authorization for use on the shoulders of certain public roads and highways and (no) tail lamps.
Troopers cited Farr for (no) safety belt and (no) child passenger restraint, the release say

First off how the hell did they manage to have a crash with a hay ride? I've never seen a hay ride that went fast enough to actually crash.
The sad part is that because of this stupid drunk fricker we'll probably see hayrides outlawed.

ATV/hayride combo driver pulled out on major highway to go to another street or driveway.
Minivan ran into back of hayride trailer/ATV combo.
Kids, driver, and guy sitting on front rack of ATV went airborne.

Did you even read the story or are you just that stupid?
Posted on 11/1/14 at 8:45 pm to Ed Osteen
Not sure why they even refer to it as a hayride.
It's a mechanism used for the fatties and lazies to take their kids trick or treating without having to exert any energy.
Just call it what it is...a fatty and lazy ride.

?? As kids we nevr had trick or treat stops on the hayrides. We would meet at one place (usually fire dept) then we rode the hayride until we got to the church and they had a party there.
Maybe a family or cousins do thay but a community hayride that stops aroumd is new to me
