What would happen if you took a pair of scissors and cut off your uvula?

Congratulations. You have achieved an at home uvulectomy. You'll probably die from infection now

I had mine removed about 12 years ago. I had a well endowed uvula and it would block my wind pipe during sleep. It acts like a check valve when you drink something.

Had mine removed when I had my tonsillectomy & adenoidectomy surgery 6 years ago. My tonsils were so large that they had stretched the skin in the back of my throat. So when the ENT removed them and he trimmed off the excess skin and my uvula. I've had no problems and the wife says I don't snore anymore.

Mine swells to the size of a lolipop after a night of drinking and/or heavy snoring. I can literally hauck it up like a loogie. It's freaking gross man. Guess I need to look into these surgeries.

Yeah, that sounds like a real problem. You should go see a doctor

ETA: or buy a pair of scissors

Just do it. Thing hangs there like a mini testicle in the back of your mouth, they're whack looking.

A couple weeks ago I got stung in the back of my throat by something (I assume either a bee or a wasp), and in the ER, my uvula was so swollen and elongated that it started going down my throat and hitting my gag reflex and made me throw up over and over. I had to lean my body/head forward to keep it from gagging me until the steroid and benadryl kicked in. It was awful. It kept feeling like I had to cough something up, but I couldn't because it was my goddamn uvula..it was such a weird feeling. And let's just say that I'm glad I didn't have a pair of scissors that day, because I'd have seriously considered it.

How did a bee/wasp get into your throat without you noticing?
