Who thinks not having P Thomas and K Robinson was a blessing in disguise?

The biggest difference maker the last two games has been Mark Ingram. He's got a lot of heat over the past couple of years for not living up to his draft pick, but this is a guy who needs to be fed the ball all game to stay in rhythm. He said as much in his post game interview. He basically said he gets stronger as the game goes, likes to wear out the defensive line in the first half and get big chunks of yards in the second half.

I think giving Pierre or Khiry the ball for the sake of giving them the ball is a bad idea. Even after they come back, I believe Ingram should be our featured primary back and as long as he is not hurt or out of breath or wants to come out voluntarily for a couple of plays, he should be getting all the carries.

Mark Ingram is our DeMarco Murray and we should ride his coat tails to a division win and a possible No.2 seed. Just give him the damn ball and forget about RBBC.

i disagree...the Saints have run really well this season, including when everyone was healthy.

Ingram has played great, and I have always liked the guy.

...but a lot of it has been about our commitment and focus on the run game since the end of last season/playoffs that has continued into this year

As opposed to running for 3 yards a bunch and having Robinson gash 'em late in the game.

ya, cause they have had totally ineffective seasons

...there's something to be said for having two beasts with fresh legs.

It's worked for Payton with some phenomenal seasons with very efficient running (by committee)

I would turn the 4 RB rotation into a 2 RB rotation. Ingram with ~20 touches per game, and PT with ~10 touches. If Ingram gets hurt, Khiry gets all of his touches. If PT gets hurt, Cadet gets all of his touches. That's it.

I guess I could live with that given Pierre's knack for getting positive yards and first downs, and his blocking and catching ability. But Ingram should get no less than 20 touches a game.

I don't get it...Khiry's running for 5.2 YPC...after the love fest that went on for this guy (deservedly), he should never get the ball anymore? why?

...the rhythm/wearing down a defense thing is nonsense, imo...if you're a good running back, you're a good running back...and Ingram is, but like I said, two beasts with fresh legs at 15 carries a piece can be better than one at 30 carries...Payton does the RBBC, and it has worked...I don't really care about total rushing per player...I care about team total rushing and team YPC

Why is Ingram at 27 carries who has been wearing down a defense better for that 28th carry than fresh-legged Khiry who averages 5 YPC?...he's not

2009 and 2011 were the last times we rushed so effectively

Pierre had about 790 yards in 2009 as the highest rusher of those two seasons.

...it's not becoming more of a featured back league as the years roll on.

Should be Mark Ingram on 1st and 2nd PT on 3rd, then bring Robinson late as a sledgehammer.

I agree. Make it a two man rotation like it was with Deuce and Reggie.

Like some Gump on here said, it's in our best interest to let him earn his $35 million contract that some other team will be stuck with. It'll take him five years to learn their system, too.

Wow! Wait...what?

Let's keep things in perspective. Green Bay has the worst rush defense in the league and Carolina is not ahead of them by much. Regardless of who's in the backfield, we should be able to run against those two teams.

No doubt this has been Ingram's best consecutive game performance in four years but there wasn't much to compare it to. He had 100 yards on 30 carries so slightly more than 3 YPC. His second run was 19 yards so carries 3-30 he averaged 2.78 YPC.

He had only one reception and there was a reason. Go back and watch the tape and you'll see he often didn't create space to give Drew an option. He also missed several blocks which led to Brees being sacked an/or hit.

His main contribution was holding on to the ball and running down the clock. This allowed the passing game to do what it's good at. He had 44 yards in the first half and 56 in the second. That's hardly a case for wearing out the defense.

This team will still need Thomas for his ability to block and catch. Pretending Ingram is D. Murray (7.4 YPC & 4 receptions last weekend) is a fantasy.

Root for the kid and the Saints but don't let your judgment be distorted. We just played two bad rush defenses...AND Ingram is in a contract year. He's a quality player but not a stud. Two games do not erase 3+ years of nothing.

Unless we franchise him.

its a blessing meaning mark is getting more confidence and swag which is good.

Honestly last night, we probably still would have had same yards but it would have been like 62, 28, 10 or so yards wise broke up so it feels better all combined for 100 in one back.

This. Ingram is obviously an important piece to this team, but the guy has real trouble staying healthy. He got injured again last night and if there is anything he has proven as a Saints it is that he can't carry the load by himself for an extended part of the season.

I would love to see Ingram continue to get around 20 carries per game with the Saints still giving the backs 35 touches overall much like the past 2 games. Thomas is one of the best (if not the best) screen pass back in the league.

I love the attitude and passion Ingram brings to the field for the Saints. I really hope he can stay healthy.

I think it says a lot about the Saints being primarily a passing team when Mark Ingram is the first back for the Saints to have two consecutive 100-yard rushing games since Deuce back in 2006 I think the announcers said? Also, another important point that was made was that when the Saints won the Super Bowl, they had a strong running game to compliment the passing game, with Mike Bell, Reggie, and Pierre. So if they can continue to run the ball effectively, I think our offense will run very smoothly, if we can limit the turnovers!

It was a blessing in disguise last year when PT was out. It showed us what Ingram could do as "the man", instead of having him in for running plays 3 out of 4 snaps and telegraphing it to the world.

He's only 24, low tread on his tires, and I say run him. Dallas is running DeMarco and they've had their best start in years. We run Ingram like they run DeMarco and we won decisively against a divsion opponent and one of the hottest teams in the league at the time. That isn't a coincidence
