Not sure if you were just making an observation, but to be fair - most people thought we would probably be able to beat terrible UF and Kentucky, but we had an all time great defensive performance to beat Ole Miss - and no way we win that game (and probably UF) if Welter was still our starting MLB.

Beating Bama will be tough - they match up better with our physicality and their offense will probably be able to put up 14-20 points. If we can figure out how to score some points we are definitely talented enough to win out. Jennings makes a number of very nice throws, need to be more unpredictable to help him out.

Auburn if you want any shot at going to Atlanta.

Disagree. OM needs to win if you're thinking about any long-shot chances for the Tigers. Gives AU their second loss with UGA and 'Bama left. If the Tigers win out, OM only needs one more loss for LSU to jump them. As an old-skule Tiger, I hate the Rebs, but for LSU's sake it would be better for them to win this Saturday.

And who's that loss going to come from? Arkansas?

If we want to go to Atlanta, Ole Miss has to win the Egg Bowl. If they don't lose here, the only other option for a loss is Arkansas. Auburn needs to lose to both UGA and Bama, but that's more likely with both on the road.

AU beats OM, loses to bama and UGA

OM loses to AU and beats state

Bama beats state and AU, loses to LSU

State loses to bama, OM, and arky/vandy

LSU wins out.

LSU wins the west in this scenario and it's the easiest way I can figure for LSU to do it. It's damn near impossible, but frick OM either way.

We can win the West even without MSU losing to Arky or Vandy. It would be great if they did, but not necessary. If everything else here happens, we win.

Wouldn't the tie breaker then be the highest ranking between MSU and LSU?

Rankings have nothing to do with tiebreakers anymore. If it ends up in a 4-way tie between us, MSU, Ole Miss and Bama, then the first tiebreaker is head-to-head against the other tied teams:

LSU 2-1
Ole Miss 2-1
Bama 1-2
MSU 1-2

That leaves us and Ole Miss, and since we beat them head-to-head, we win the tiebreaker.

MSU doesn't need 3 losses. If this scenario plays out, and MSU has 2 losses, then it's a 4 way tie in the SECW. If you look at the divisional head to head records, Alabama and MSU would be 1-2, while Ole Miss and LSU would be 2-1. Since LSU defeated Ole Miss, we would go.

I didn't know this but it's awesome. I always thought that was a ridiculous tie breaker.

Better odds than expecting AU to defeat OM yet lose Two more games so LSU could pass them up. MSU still figures to be in the cat-bird seat anyway.

The only time it would have come into play was as a last resort. Now that the BCS rankings are no longer official, the new "last resort" tiebreaker is the combined SEC record of your cross-division opponents (East for us). Here's the new list: LINK

The melt from OM fans would be great, but the MSU melt would be of epic proportions. Living in MS it would be fantastic to witness first hand.

I just think there's as much a chance of OM beating AU and losing to Arky before defeating MSU, as there is to expect AU to defeat OM yet lose to both UGA and 'Bama. Whole bunch of long-shots really. Tigers win out and they still have a shot at a great bowl, regardless of who wins the West.
