You don't go to the funeral for the dead, you go for the survivors.

Put all of your stuff in the boat and call the fishing buddies to tell them to come hook up and take your stuff. If the funeral is local, you might be able to drive over afterwards to at least pick up your gear.

I would assume your friends would understand and tell you not to bother. Maybe they'll even swing by Academy and buy their own shite instead.

The old man needs friends this weekend more than someone in a lake house does.

For anyone who's ever lost a loved one, there really should be no dilemma for you. Having lost my mother, my father, mother in law and father in law I can assure your stabilizing presence will be important and appreciated by your friend, although he himself may not even realize it. Go help your hurting friend.

Jesus man. Go to the funeral. Everything else is factored in after the fact. I understand your current obligations to your buddy, but he has to understand. Maybe you can do both (it might require a PITA middle of the night drive), but the only priority is the funeral.

Honestly, if he is that good of a friend to you. I would go to the funeral just to hang out with him.

Not to be crude, but it seems as when one oldie goes the other is soon after. Id got just to spend time with him.

A key ingredient in being man is being there for his friends, especially when no one else will.

His wife's temperment is of no concern here; you weren't friends with her.

Go the the funeral. He's been your friend for 30 years. This is way more important than a fishing trip. No brainer.

This is a tough call.

On one hand, at least she can't be a bitch to you anymore, if you attend the funeral. On the other, if you do go fishing, he's 82, he won't be around many more years to be angry with you anyway.
