Anyone know the LSU record for freshman allpurpose yards?

I searched but couldn't find it.
I'm wondering whether or not Buga is getting close.

I looked up Kevin Faulk and he barely broke 1,000 in all purpose yards. The only other one I can think of is Justin Vincent and he had around 1,100. He may have already broken the record.
And, I also want to point out that he has not padded his stats against lesser competition. His two biggest APY games came against Florida and Ole Miss, the two best defenses we've faced so far.

i'd imagine Faulk or Hilliard would be in the running for that.

I'd guess the only other would be Dalton Hilliard. Hilliard still holds the legit freshman rushing record as he set it in a year without 12 games and before a 13th SECCG and bowl games stats counted. Don't think he returned kicks, but he probably had a decent amount of receiving yards out of the backfield.

Just looked up Hilliard, and he had 1,270 all purpose yards. He didn't return kicks, and he had 901 rushing and 368 receiving. I don't know if that included the 12th (bowl) game though. As I recall, they didn't include those stats in cumulative season totals back then.

Just looked up Hilliard's stats on LSUSports.net.
Dalton had:
901 rushing yards on 193 attempts. 4.7 average. 11 TD
368 receiving yards on 31 catches. 11.9 average. 5 TD.
Dude had 1269 all purpose yards without a single return yard...as a freshman...in 11 games.
BEAST.

Fournette is at 1,223 through nine games.

Correct...11 Games only. Not sure of his rushing yards, but he scored both of the Tigers' TD's in the bowl game against Nebraska. Would have given him 18 on the year.

I agree that Hilliard was a beast back then. That was the first game I attended (that Oregon State game - his first as a Tiger) that I really have a great recollection of.
However, also remember that Fournette didn't really become the "starter" at RB for a few games AND he is sharing carries with Magee, Hilliard (ironically) AND Williams. Dalton really only shared the backfield with Garry James, and was the starter from Day 1.

My first game in Tiger Stadium as a 12 year old! I've had a man crush on Dalton since then.

True, but Gary James had 145 carries, 733 yards and 7 TD's himself. Hilliard was the starter, but he was nearly splitting time with James. It's actually kind of hard to compare both eras as now they include sacks as QB rushes, so it's more painstaking to decipher the stats.
What would be interesting to see is how many more plays are run in today's game than then. Even with LSU playing what, at time,s looks like 1970's football, they do tend to play faster than their 1982 counterparts did. I'd bet that by the end of the regular season, the 2014 offense will have a considerable amount more total plays than the 1982 version did...but that's purely speculative on my part and I'll do no research to back it up! haha I'd love to know the answer, but am far too lazy/busy to look it up.

One of my favorite Tigers of all time. Loved watching him and Gary James play

It's a shame the bowl games didn't count for Faulk. He racked up a ton of APY against Michigan State and little Nicky back in '95. Nearly 400 if I remember right.
Also it should be noted that Faulk and Vincent both had their best games against the stiffest competition. As mentioned Faulk blasted MSU and prior to that had several good games down the stretch. Vincent was the SECCG and BCSNCG MVP.

Alexander didn't really break out until his junior year where he went nuts with 1,700 + rushing yards. His first two years Terry Robiske was the featured back gaining over 1,000 himself Alexander's sophmore year.
Looking back, in today's climate of "if I don't play now I'm transferring!" it's hard to imagine a back as good as Charles Alexander waiting his turn until his junior year like that. And of course, if it were today, he'd have never followed it up with a very solid senior season because he'd have been gone.

It's hard to really compare different eras.
1. There weren't a ton of Fr. RBs getting alot of carries in the 70's and 80's.
2. Teams generally only played 10-11 games, and bowl games weren't added into the season stats.
