My apologies for appearing to some to sound like an insensitive a-hole.

My wife's father is still relatively young, and was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer recently. The medical bills are killing them, and my mother in law will never see a day without being in debt.

He's going to die, and refuses to even let us and his other child pay for him to take a dream vacation with his wife, much less start soliciting donations from the general public.

Also, I've taken my child to Disney World and stood in line next to families with Make-A-Wish shirts on. That's a better donation than sending a 29-year old on a Sonoma wine tour or to the Grand Canyon.

The cops are still piecing together the evidence.

I may have a little sympathy for them. They donated money under false pretenses, which constitutes fraud.

1. She claimed she would kill herself on a certain date, she announced this to the world via numerous media outlets.
2. Potential donors decided that they believed in her right to do so, and by donating money to her cause then the dignified suicide agenda would gain further traction, and their money would go to something they truly believed in.
3. She decided not to kill herself.
4. That's fraud

Would you feel slighted if you gave money to United Way and they said we are going to stop building houses for poor people today?

So far, all that's changed is the date, which in the grand scheme of the overall story, isn't a big deal. She's still going to kill herself when she feels like the pain isn't worth fighting through. Now if she somehow miraculously recovers, then it's a fraudulent story.

I guess those "right to die" people are pretty pissed right about now.

ETA: All of the people bitching: you KNOW she is still going to die, right? I mean, she didn't lie about the brain tumor. She won't see this same time next year. Calm the frick down.

So she says. I'm not inclined to take her at her word.

That's kinda like the bum off of College Dr. People give him money left and right. They don't have a clue what's he spending it on. They do it because their heart was in the right place.

They do it because they are morons and don't realize that is not helping him...all it does is allow him to get his drugs or alcohol. They are homeless for a reason. That reason is generally because they exhausted all help from friends and family. This doesn't go for the mentally ill.

Plenty of innocent children more deserving than some alcoholic bum on college drive.

It's a really big deal actually. We are all going to die...on some date at some time.

If she doesn't follow through with it, she's a fraud. The date is inconsequential to me, it was stupid of her to set a date in the first place.

Not everyone has it in them to go through with it. Plenty of people get the script but never use it.

My step dads brother couldn't do it. Luckily for him he went quick.

What?

The entire point is to bring attention to the "death with dignity" or "right to die" or whatever the cause is that allows her to choose to end her own life.

If she gets all this attention for the cause, then doesn't even go through with it, that's pretty fraudulent, don't you think?

and this is 100% ok............for people who don't publicize that they are going to do it, and receive donations to do so.

doing nothing to fix the problem or actually help the problem.

I have a big heart but i am not an idiot and won't enable someone who doesn't deserve the help as much as someone who does.

But it's life and death. You're saying she should kill herself just to appease a bunch of strangers? Please.

Fine, she doesn't have to kill herself.

Return the money.

Or donate the same amount to kids fighting to stay ALIVE
