I never understood the appeal to hiking. It must be because I grew up in the woods in a very scenic area.

So, you dress warm then. I've hiked in cold weather. All about layers and appropriate clothes/shoes.

That is pretty cool. We spent the rest of Mardi Gras in NOLA for our honeymoon. It was her first trip to NOLA.

Well I don't just hike around in flat woods. I'm hiking on mountain trails that have an increase in elevation. Headed up to enjoy nicer views at the top and that sense of accomplishment when I make it to the top of the mountain or viewpoint.

seems pretty boring unless you would see bears or deer...then you would need a rifle...and might as well just be hunting

I love the mountains. Always have. Me and my family would always go to the mountains every summer for a few months. All we did was hike. I love it. I enjoy the solitude.

I think beach vacations are horribly boring.

Weddings with DJs suck anyway. Drop the DJ and just get a TV

I have never been. But you are talking about mountains with beautiful trees right? I think that is different than the hiking nurse is doing.

There are "pretty trees hiking" as he calls it in AZ as well. I hike in Flagstaff for that, Sedona for red rocks, Phx when I don't want to drive far(10-15 minute drive puts me on the trailhead of a mountain trail)
