The White House on Wednesday sought to tamp down the controversy over a magazine piece that detailed deep tensions between the U.S. and Israel – and quoted an unnamed senior Obama administration official calling the Israeli leader a “chickenshit.”

Apparently a commando who supervised the capture of the Israeli airliner parked in Idi Amin's Uganda is a chickenshit. Who knew?
Most speculation I've heard is that Kerry is likely the culprit because he wants to make a peace agreement with the Palestinians at any cost.

I didn't know we were at war with the Palestinians.

The WH is definitely at war with Israel.

quote:(That's why he comes in for special attacks by Ya'alon and other members of Bibi's cabinet. You have to remember that Israeli politics are parliamentary, Bibi heads a coalition government which means his cabinet is full of his biggest political rivals.)
Kerry, the U.S. official most often targeted for criticism by right-wing Israeli politicians, is the only remaining figure of importance in the Obama administration who still believes that Netanyahu is capable of making bold compromises, which might explain why he’s been targeted.

I love how the unnamed administration officials call Bibi chickenshit over his policy decisions being influenced by back home politics.
Red lines in Syria much?

The Entebbe hero was Bibi's brother. Stuff America used to do and we would all be proud.

Oh no we may upset Most Holy Israel! Then they won't take billions and billions of dollars from the U.S.!!!

Bibi is no saint, but publicly airing dirty laundry about an important ally in a vital region is amateur hour politics. Say what you will about diplomatic doublespeak but its there to keep countries on at least civil terms with each other.

Does anyone else not care if Obama is catering to Israel's needs? America first, I say.

It's amazing how many people on this board will reflexively side with a foreign government over their own. I guess people don't love this country.
By the way, I think you're confusing Netanyahu with Barak.

Nations don't have allies, only interests.

I abhor diplomatic doublespeak. Folks should say what they mean and mean what they say, and that includes Obama, who in the past has made me nauseous with his doublespeak. April Glaspie's doublespeak is why Saddam invaded Kuwait in 1990, and look at all the foreign headaches that's cost us over the last 24 years.

While I agree, this administration of total cowards should probably use better judgment in talking shite about other heads of state.

some of us don't confuse our "government" with our country.

Obama and his whole administration are a conglomeration of idiots and amateurs. They have done more to make America look bad on the world's stage than ANY previous administration.

Bibi is lucky that all Obama does is run his mouth about him. Other Presidents, such as Ike or Bush 41, would have collapsed his government a long time ago, because the Israeli people won't tolerate a Prime Minister who they fear might jeopardize their relationship with the U.S.

Israeli officials, in turn, describe the Obama administration as weak and naive, and are doing as much as they can to bypass the White House in favor of allies in Congress and elsewhere in the administration.

U.S. President Barack Obama’s equivocation over the possibility of a strike on Syria has riled Israeli officials, Israeli daily Maariv reported Sunday.
“Obama is a coward,” one diplomatic source told the paper. “It’s clear he does not want to attack and is looking for reassurance.”
quote:LINK
"I can only compliment Obama for dragging everyone to his boat," the Israeli official said. "'You want war? Own it, too.' Still, however, he's a disastrous weak leader. ... The Middle East is far less important for this administration and to real American national interests today than in the past. ... The U.S.-Saudi alliance insures a continued supply of oil, and other than that, the U.S. doesn't really care."
quote:
Two months after his visit to Washington, he is still finding it difficult to communication normally with the White House. To appreciate the depth of his paranoia, it is enough to hear how he refers to Rahm Emanuel and David Axelrod, Obama's senior aides: as "self-hating Jews."

FYI, dissing Bibi will enhance Obama's reputation on the world stage, not diminish it.

Trackfan is right because the world has always hated Israel. Obama just getting in lock step with the rest of the guys.
If Israel worried about what others think so much it would not be here today. On the other hand, maybe that's what you want?
