They reeled me in bigtime with Taken (which they should show again) & it's been teh suck ever since.
Dunno why they couldn't be showing movies like The Thing & The Arrival instead of flicks w/effects you can rival on your laptop, but I guess Judd Nelson needs work. And +1 on MST3K.

Being Human was actually very good
Thought it lost some "darkness" from the BBC America version. Having said that thought the BBCA version jumped the shark around the third season. Also think there is room for cheesy Sci-Fi as well as Helix type programming on SyFY. Hooks the casual drive by viewer as well as the regulars. Keeps it fresh

Sharknado
Developing movies/programming that touch on as many themes as "Sharknado" is an exercise in futility.

Really wish they would pick up the next season of Continuum.

I also did not know that Comcast owns Sci-Fi...blah.
that explains a lot,, Comcast is a horribly ran co. with a true lack of vision at the top.
The concept all along should have been Sci-fan not sci-fi, science fiction/fantasy should have been embraced from the start.
There are any number of great fantasy series prime for production.
Moorcocks Elric/Corum series are good examples, Zelazny's Amber worlds and Azimovs Foundation are more examples, along with the continued Dune/Galactica reboots and Farscape. Then came the big fail on Caprica that could have been so good.
There are so many better things out there than the crap that is being turned out now, (Hunger Games of Thrones I speak of you).

Eureka was solid, and it at least catered to sci fi fans. You wouldn't want to make it the cornerstone of your network or anything, but it was a fun, breezy show.
Anyway, they squandered a lot of goodwill, and they've been doing shite like Sharknado, which everyone involved knows is terrible. It's one of those things that brings in ratings while also cheapening your brand longterm. No one respects them anymore. and it's not like there isn't a great backlog of not-expensive shows they can get in syndication (Outer Limits, Twilight Zone, Ray Bradbury Theater, Friday the 13th, etc).
But the fact they missed the comic boom is killer. It was a natural. They should have Arrow or the Flash. Now, they can get back in the game with, and I'm not kidding here, Damage Control. It's perfect for TV, and it would help hype Marvel movies. They should be the ones doing a Constantine series (not to late to do Y: The Last Man). They should have Gotham (not too late to do Sandman!)

They should start with keeping shows like Haven on the air. It's a great show that doesn't get much love because it's stuck inbetween the rest of their shitshow right now.

Agreed.

Yeah I don't know why they stopped airing the old stuff. I loved Twilight Zone late night or early morning.

Good call. Damage Control would be a lot of fun. They have some brand building to do before a DC or Marvel brings something to them though.

OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGYESYESYESYES.
WANT.
Anything Neil Gaiman should be out into serialization ASAP.
Can't wait for Starz to finally get American Gods off the ground.
I would love to see SyFy get back to its roots and do some solid programming. Used to be one of my favorite channels.

It's been coming for a long time. The minute they committed to doing as many cheesy, low budget movies, many of which were knockoffs of popular recent releases, the end was near. A few years ago, I thought their acquisition of Flash Gordon would be interesting. Instead, it was one of the shittiest TV shows I've ever seen.
The success of Sharknado was actually a bad thing for them. It legitimized all of the other shitty, ridiculously bad project they intentionally did.

I'm not exactly sure how Warehouse 13 is considered a Burn Notice knockoff by this author. It's more like The Librarian movies crossed with X-Files IMO.
Way better comparison.

Indeed. Warehouse was very good. HG Wells rocked. Dumb to cancel it but that's what that channel does--hit the 5th season and you are gone.
Defiance started out slow but actually is a good show with a very good cast. So SyFy will probably cancel it too.

Last I read it was a Tom Hanks/HBO thing that I haven't heard about for a couple years
I really liked Eureka. The only show I regularly watch on Scyfy these days is "Face/Off". I do enjoy a lot of their B movie monster flicks, though. "Jersey Shore Shark Attack" and "Ragin' Cajun Redneck Gators" are just fun movies.
They're just getting flanked on all sides. The fact that "Falling Skies" is on TnT just proves how much they missed the mark. Scyfy started the wave, and then got off it right before the wave got huge. Scyfy is like the lame hipster of the science fiction television market.
What they need to be doing is what MeTV has been doing at nights. "Thriller", "Twilight Zone", "Svengoulie", classic "Star Trek", ect.

Like I say, if comcast is running that sh*tshow, it's no surprise they are failing like mtv fails at quality music.

I'm not finished with season 3 yet so no spoilers, but the show is originally Canadian correct, will there be a season 4 in Canada, and hopefully therefore NetFlix?
