The best scenario for two SEC teams is as follows

Bama sneaks past MSU This is their one loss.

Bama goes to the SEC championship gets beat by a 1 loss Georgia.

I could see int his scenario UGA and MSU getting in the playoff, but there would need to be an upset loss in the big 10 and big 12.

I full suspect that conference champs will get a nod over non conference champs meaning for two SEC teams to get in, it would have to be that only 2 1 loss teams win their conference and an SEC non champ also has 1 loss.

I think everybody realizes that those SEC teams will sort itself out... how is that the committee's fault?

Because they're already not considering SOS or recent losses. "Body of work" has become the phrase for using bullshite to rank teams that lose high.

What if Miss St and Auburn win out? It will be tough to move Auburn out of the 3 spot if they win out, beating Ole Miss, UGA, and Alabama. The committee would catch ABSOLUTE hell if they eliminated Auburn after finishing out the year with those kind of wins; especially after being ranked 3rd in the initial polls.

Ole Miss and Miss St. being much better than usual, and the SEC schedule is all part of the Playoff Committee's nefarious plan?

if they do

a 1 loss TCU conference champ would get in over Auburn
a 1 loss Oregon conference champ would get in over Auburn
a 1 loss Michigan state or Ohio State gets in over Auburn.
IT is even possible a 1 loss Florida State gets in over Auburn.

In order for a 2nd SEC team to get in is if 2 of the 4 major conference champs have 2 losses.

Meaning

If Big 10 and big 12 have a 2 loss champ
or ACC and Pac 12 have a 2 loss champ.

etc.

You are correct in the first part... Only 1 SEC team will get in. The champion. Let's just hope its from the West and it not be UGA.

OP, that is the first thing that went through my mind as well, they know what they are doing and did current rankings on purpose to please SEC folks knowing full well that in the end we will kill each other off and thus please the rest of the country as well.

the sec will not get 2 spots. if auburn beats Georgia and Georgia beats a 1 loss sec west champ, then the sec COULD be left out of the party. there is a lot of public backlash over the sec right now. the sec is NOT GUARANTEED a spot.

I agree, I think it is more likely we get no teams in than 2

Creeping mediocrity. It's how we do our classrooms, it's how we do our politics, it's how we do our businesses, why not also how we select our "best" teams? I hated the playoff idea before it ever became reality. I hate it more now.

Who really cares? As long as the SEC champ gets in, it's all gravy. A second SEC team will almost assuredly be from the same division as the SEC champ, giving them a pass on having to play in the SECCG a la Bama 2011. frick rematches, the SEC champ should earn the right to go feast on the three that get in.

I didn't see where that was mentioned already. Where was this discussed? Because I think, without a doubt, that if Auburn and Miss St win out, they are both in. Not sure where this was discussed earlier.

Here

It could be the case, but I also think they know the scenario is unlikely. No way they set it up can guarantee 4 conference champs in short of making it a requirement The question in this scenario becomes, when they say they are putting huge emphasis on conference championships do they mean it

I am of the opinion that they mean it and that they will put a 1 loss conference champ in over a 1 loss SEC non champ

I just laugh at anyone who says this so definitively right now.

You have no idea. The season has to play out. The committee has said over and over again that they feel no pressure to put 4 conference champions in the playoff just to avoid having two from one conference.

The committee just NAILED the rankings yesterday, and people are still finding things to bitch about.

It's silly. Just stop.

Their desire should be to ensure that the 4 teams with the best records after playing 12 games vs. the strongest completion face off.

Speaking to LSU, how does one look at the L's or W's and come up with Okla. over LSU? Neb. has played one team in the committee's top 25 and loss. Their schedule, in difficulty, doesn't even come close to that of LSU. Looks to me like the only thing they have over LSU they are a 1 L team.

I was hoping SOS would play a bigger part than simply any one with 1 L will be better ranked than anyone with 2 L's.
