Exactly, he isn't a troll. He's a Rockettes homer with a cursory understanding of the game.

Wrong son. He knows everything there is to know about basketball. He is extremely knowledgeable. Just ask him. He'll tell you all about how knowledgeable he is.

Does this mean you want to bet me on whom has the better team/record? I'll take that bet gladly.

It's not gospel like you want it to be. So here's a little something using their data coming up with points allowed per shot defended (PAPSD).

Rank/Player/PAPSD
1 Serge Ibaka 0.759558
2 Larry Sanders 0.75966
3 Roy Hibbert 0.776292
4 Kosta Koufos 0.8099
5 Jermaine O'Neal 0.821834
6 Elton Brand 0.822844
7 Nene Hilario 0.890696
8 Joakim Noah 0.895472
9 Spencer Hawes 0.896622
10 Kendrick Perkins 0.896711
11 Nick Collison 0.904793
12 Nazr Mohammed 0.907134
13 LaMarcus Aldridge 0.910515
14 Marc Gasol 0.912768
15 Tiago Splitter 0.920855
16 Ekpe Udoh 0.921327
17 Kevin Seraphin 0.923392
18 Omer Asik 0.930768
19 Al Jefferson 0.932464
20 Emeka Okafor 0.932572
21 JaVale McGee 0.933692
22 Dwight Howard 0.934856

I took the shots defended and multiplied the percentage of shots at each range by it to determine the number of shots at each range defended by that person then multiplied that by that person allowable field goal percentage at that range. Took that and multiplied it by the number of points you get per made basket at that range and added them all together from those ranges. This gives you the average number of points allowed per shot defense by those defenders.

Dwight doesn't even break the top 20 in this aspect. So while he may decrease field goal percentage at the basket but he's not stopping people from scoring at some Superman rate when he's defending. Defense isn't just played 5 ft from the basket.

Unfortunately AD wasn't in this study, but Asik was so we can get a comparison there.

you're right when Aldridge is throwing up fadeaways from 17ft and they're going in all day there's nothing Dwight as great as he is can do about it.

Yes Dwight is the elite rim protector, nothing he or anyone else can do when Aldridge is making it rain. The point of Dwight effect is that blocks aren't the end all be all measure of Defense like so many here like to think. Davis gets a blocks so he his great.... Not so fast. he only gets those blocks bc he has so many opportunities to get blocks whereas D12 doesn't because people don't challenge him.

Bigs in the study allowing a lower field goal percentage at close range than Dwight:

Roy Hibbert
Larry Sanders
Elton Brand
Serge Ibaka
LaMarcus Aldridge
Jermaine O'Neal
Kosta Koufos
Kendrick Perkins
Joakim Noah

Doesn't even take the title in that.

Number 10 according to close range FG% per your study.

I think the only person in the study who doesn't play Aldridge...is Aldridge so that doesn't hold any weight to your defense.

Ok, so what is, because you say he's elite which the stats are showing he isn't. Another fun fact, here's points allowed per shot defended at close range.

Roy Hibbert 0.764
Larry Sanders 0.768
Elton Brand 0.796
Serge Ibaka 0.832
LaMarcus Aldridge 0.878
Jermaine O'Neal 0.88
Kosta Koufos 0.9
Joakim Noah 0.91
Kendrick Perkins 0.91
Dwight Howard 0.914

Wouldn't allowing the least amount of points when you're on the ball be what you're looking for? He's 10th at close range, 22nd against mid range, 46th at 3pt (hand down man down Dwight!), and 22nd overall. These are all ranking him points allowed per shot defended at the specific range.

Do I really have to dig up last years numbers or are you gonna take my word for it? Dwight is the best except for Hibbert. Davis isn't in the picture. Remember also that D12 was still shaking off his back injury last year too.

dud you could juggle those numbers a million different ways to make a million different points. You aren't gonna prove anything to anyone. In closing out this topic, I'll remind you that the paper is called the Dwight Effect, not the Sanders effect, not the Brand effect, etc.

I am looking at "The Dwight Effect:
A New Ensemble of Interior Defense Analytics for the NBA"
I am assuming this is what you're talking about. It's this multipage report with all the stats. If it's not what you were talking about then put the link in here. Quit all this, "trust me, I've seen it".
